PLEASE NOTE: If you are following the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) pathway, then the programme will be 2 years, completing level 5 and level 6 of the overall nursing programme.

a) interactive live sessions in our online classroom, fostering dynamic learner engagement through various interactive tools,

b) face to face sessions to develop a stronger sense of community, getting to test out your thoughts and ideas in small groups, with sessions to learn clinical skills, and

c) "learn-at-your-own-pace" sessions where you can watch videos, read materials, and complete assignments at a time that suits you. It's perfect for those who like to fit learning around their own schedule alongside the times that we will require you to attend for lectures and face-to-face sessions.

When you visit our study centres you will get to participate in skills sessions, and meet the academic team, further enhancing practical skills and fostering a sense of belonging within the programme.

At the start of the programme you will attend an induction to help orientate you to BPP University and the course. You will have sessions on how to access and navigate our virtual learning environment where all key information about the modules, timetables and programme requirements are kept. You will also meet the team who are committed to supporting your journey to success!

Uniforms

Different employers have different approaches to uniform policy for apprentices. Some employers prefer apprentices to continue to wear their uniform, but where this is not the case, BPP will order a uniform and cover the cost of this.

You will be sent a link with measurement instructions for use by our supplier. Normally uniforms are delivered to the relevant study centre where they can be collected.

Annual Declaration

In line with NMC standards, you will be sent a link to an online Declaration of Good Character and Good Health at the beginning of the programme and on an annual basis. You will need to complete this before being allowed into placement as part of the programme.

If you choose not to register at this time, you must do so within five years, or else you will have to undergo further training. Also, it's important to note that you can only practice as a registered nurse once registered with the NMC and in receipt of a PIN.

Your career journey starts from day one of the programme. Employability skills are embedded throughout your learning, helping you to build the confidence, knowledge, and professional skills needed to succeed in your chosen career. While most apprenticeships lead directly to employment with your current employer, we recognise that this may not always be the case – and some of you may wish to explore new opportunities or a different career path.

Our dedicated Careers and Employability Team within the School of Healthcare and Nursing is here to support you. We offer:

• Help with writing your first personal statement or CV.

• Interview preparation and practice.

• Monthly workshops focusing on key career and employability skills.

Apprentices will complete 25 hours each week on the apprenticeship which over the course of 4 years, demonstrates the requirement for NMC registration of 4600 hours in total. You will either be 25 hours per week in study or 25 hours per week on placement.

PLEASE NOTE: if you are following the RPL programme, the course duration is 2 years but the study and placement hours for the relevant parts of the programme are the same.

Your progress is monitored consisting of Informal and Formal reporting. You will be allocated a Coach who will meet with you every 12 weeks to complete a mandatory Progress Review. In addition, your allocated Academic Assessors will have regular contact with you to assess your progression in line with NMC standards and support and signpost you to resources for any issues that may arise, including action plans when required.  

BPP Student Support

50% of the programme comprises time in placement and your employer will organise these in line with the dates allocated in the programme planners.

To meet NMC standards, you will need to experience different placements so you will spend time outside of your employment base for some of the allocated placement time. This gives you the opportunity to care for different patient groups, in different settings and with different teams!!!

Supervision and Assessment

During your practice placements, you will work alongside Practice Supervisors and Practice Assessors who are trained to support and assess students in the workplace in accordance with the NMC Standards for student supervision and assessment.

Your practice assessment document is an essential record that demonstrates your learning, skills, and progress throughout your time in practice.

It contains evidence of your proficiencies and the practice hours you have achieved.

✅ Keep it safe – it’s a vital part of your training and you’ll need it for your assessments.

Our study centres support you with your learning by providing teaching staff, library resources, clinical skills suites and a space for you to connect in a physical sense with the course alongside your online learning and placement/work locations.

You will be required to attend once a month to your allocated study centre.

Depending on where you live, the journey may be very easy or a little challenging. Make sure you plan your journey well in advance and ask for help from your employer or your tutor if you need any further assistance. Your attendance is mandatory to ensure you successfully meet the requirements of the course.
