<title>Learning about our language system is important when using a sound wall because it involves the speech sounds and the articulation of them. Oral language and articulation in using sound walls helps students with sounds that make up words. We are going from articulation of speech to print (the letters they represent). This is supporting students with blending, segmenting, and manipulating sounds.</title>

Using a Sound wall is a great way to support and show how to articulate these sounds and show how to position your mouth . It is a great visual as well when supporting writing. </title>

<title>As a Mom of two speech and language delayed children I cannot stress how important it is to learn our language system. There are so many sound combinations/sounds not recognized by looking at letters alone which is so confusing to children when they are learning that letters make up words! These oral language skills are so important!</title>

<title>Students need to learn the language system/articulation first so they can recognize the speech sounds as they are learning to read and write. They need to learn the phonemes before they can learn the different graphemes. This needs to be explicitly taught. </title>

<title>The human brain is hardwired for oral language, NOT for reading or writing. It is so important for for learners to perceive sound - how their face looks, how the mouth feels, ad where the air flows when pronouncing sounds. We as educators MUST have a solid understanding of our language system so that we can best teach students. Children perceive sound through how it FEELS and LOOKS!!! Truly understanding our language system will build foundational skills in our own learning so that we can properly teach children to move from speech to print (and not the other way around). Having this knowledge will allow us to focus on the learner&#39;s point of view and attach phonemes to graphemes over time. </title>
