For the audio track I want to find a track that will allow me to create synergy between the audio and visual. To do so I plan on utilising the skills learnt in assignment 1 of 'Design Language in Media Arts' where one of the key grading components of our stop motion video was to create synergy between video and audio. Since the sport is so fast paced I want to find an audio track possibly from the electronic genre. The higher bpm and breakdowns in those songs will help me achieve that synergy that I am looking for. I've had a little look around for royalty free music but am yet to find anything that I think would really suit the video.

In 6 years of playing for West Adelaide I have always been the youngest player. I am now 20 and my 6th season was no different. Again I was the youngest. If this trend continues, in 5 years we will have men's 3 players under 30.

There are 3 different demographics I would like to target for this video. Both of these demographics include males and females.

Juniors
Under 18's and Under 21's. Attracting these players is an issue that is present around Australia in Handball. As a sport we receive very little funding from the state and federal governments. How can we entice juniors to come and play a sport where very little costs are subsidised and the whole thing is basically self funded?

International Students
International students, especially those from Europe already have an understanding of the game and many have played for many years back home. Handball being such a small sport we're a very tight knit community almost like a family and many of these international students miss that about back home

The final demographic is more wide ranging and targets those between 22-30. Targeting this demographic and retaining these players creates a solid foundation for the club and would allow us to expand to a West Adelaide A and West Adelaide B.

From my research I haven't been able to find any sort of work directly related to Handball in Australia so all my previous work has had to come from videos from overseas clubs meaning it has been incredibly difficult to actually see how effective they have been. I have tried to use number of views as a metric on measuring success but I feel that isn't exactly a meaningful metric meaning. Especially since some professional clubs have millions of fans and therefore their reach is automatically going to be higher. I had no issues using these previous examples for editing and composition ideas but in regards to their success and what worked/what didn't I definitely had nothing concrete to go off.

2014 Government statistics published on the Australian Universities website showed that there were 23,032 international students studying at university in South Australia. Out of these 23,000 we can assume that there is at least a group of students, regardless of how small, who have played handball in their home countries. These are the students we want to attract because those who come from a handball background can immediately jump in and start playing without our coaches having to start from scratch and teach them the game.

http://www.australianuniversities.com.au/directory/student-numbers/

This example from the English Handball Federation is similar to what I plan on creating. They used footage from one match to keep consistency throughout the video. They use upbeat and quick paced music throughout the video which peaks at key points throughout the video creating excellent synergy between the two. I'm unsure as to whether they have applied some sort off filter over the footage or if the footage itself is just slightly grainy. I'm personally not a huge fan of the text in the video. I would prefer the visuals to communicate everything rather than having constant text popping up. But I understand that being such an unknown sport in these regions the use of text is more focused on delivering information to let people learn more about the sport. The use of text is something I'll have to decide on.

Jinga, Gheorghe. "MARKETING STRATEGIES AND MANAGEMENT IN SPORT CLUBS".Management Research and Practice 8.1 (2016): 46-49. Print.

This article from Romania largely focuses on the decline of sports club in Romania and the fall of communism amongst other reasons responsible. It then delves into possible ways to promote sports largely focussing on youth involvement as a foundation to continue growth for future generations. They discuss promotional activities such as videos like the one I plan on creating but then discuss that these promotional activities may attract the players to come out to a training or a game but after that point its up to the members of the club; players, coaches and management to retain those players and expand their growth.

Whilst I have no interest in the lack of sporting participation in Romania, I do believe that the authors present some excellent ideas on how to increase these numbers and for them to be sustainable for future generations. I believe that the authors strong focus towards youth involvement is extremely relatable to the issues present at my club where our lack of juniors is endangering the future sustainability of the club.

After reading this article I now see that I may have to place more importance on delivering it to a younger demographic. The idea I have is rather than changing the content of the video is to simply alter the promoted reach settings on facebook where the video was to be advertised. This way we know that the video will be guaranteed to appear in the news feeds of potential younger players.

"Attitude Toward The Advertising Music: An Overlooked Potential Pitfall In Commercials". The Journal of Consumer Marketing 28.6 (2011): 396-411. Print.

This article discusses the effectives of different genres of music in advertisements. It also discusses the way viewers respond to certain types of music in advertisements.

I found the article incredibly useful. At first my plan was to use an incredibly heavy fast paced electronic song but after reading this article I have come to the conclusion that this actually might have a negative impact on the promotional video. The reasoning behind this is that handball is already an incredibly fast paced game, so if I used a song that was also ridiculously fast paced it might alter the perception for the viewers and make the game seem much faster than it is and possibly putting some people off from possibly trying the sport. This is not to say that I am going to use a classical opera song for my video but I will have to rethink and possibly find a song and genre that is slightly slower whilst maintaining that synergy between audio and visual I would like to have.

"Consumer Attitudes Toward Online Video Advertising: An Empirical Study On Youtube As Platform". 2014 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management (2014): n. pag. Web. 24 Aug. 2016.

This article publishes the results of an empirical study undertaken by the authors. The authors present a hypothesis that uses youtube as a platform which discusses how viewers perceive these ads. The hypothesis claims that these ads mainly annoy viewers rather than enticing them to purchase the advertised products. The study concludes with the result that yes the videos do nothing more than annoy the viewer but they also build mental availability in the viewers head so that they may purchase that product/brand in the future.

I found this article genuinely interesting for several reasons. Firstly the article uses empirical data from a study conducted by the authors. Secondly the hypothesis was very intriguing because I felt that it was a pretty general consensus that these ads did nothing else than annoy viewers. Lastly the results confirmed the hypothesis but also recognised the growth in mental availability amongst viewers after viewing the video.

The key thing I can take away from reading this is that for my video to not simply be an annoying ad on a news feed it needs to look less like an ad and more like a highlights promotional video.
