A: FINISH THESE SENTENCES using the words VOLUME, CELL MEMBRANE,  and anything else you learned in the bubble lab OR the gummy bear lab.

If the cell membrane lets water IN, then an apple will taste juicier because the water is what makes the apple juicier. The more water the cell membrane takes in, the greater the volume will be. This provides more room for the vacuole to take water in, making the apple juicer.

If the cell membrane lets water OUT, then an apple will taste drier because the cell won't have as much water in it. This will decrease the volume. When the volume is smaller, the size of the cell also decreases, making it much harder for the vacuole to store water. This could burst the vacuole, in turn making the apple drier.

A: FINISH THESE SENTENCES using the words VACUOLE, TURGOR PRESSURE,  and anything else you learned in the french fry lab OR levels 5-8.

If the vacuole expands, then an apple will taste juicy and crispy because a full vacuole increases the turgor pressure. The turgor pressure pushes the cytoplasm out, pushing out the cell membrane, making the cell walls strong and sturdy, making the apple crispy. This also means that with a full vacuole, there will be a lot of water in the cells, making the apple juicy.

If the vacuole shrinks, then an apple will taste dry and weak because the turgor pressure will be weak. The lack of turgor pressure collapses the cytoplasm, collapses the cell membrane, then collapses the cell walls, making the apple mushy without any crunch. Also, since there is very low turgor pressure it means that the vacuole was low on water, making the apple dry.

A: FINISH THESE SENTENCES using the words LAMELLA, CELLS, CELL WALL,  and anything else you learned in previous levels.

If the lamella is sticky, then an apple will taste crispy and juicy because the cell walls are sturdy and strong. The cells are stuck together, and when combined with the strong cell walls, it makes strong tissue. When you bite into this tissue, it is one big juicy bite, all the cells stay intact, creating a juicy explosion after the vacuole bursts in your mouth.

If the lamella is not sticky, then an apple will taste dry and mushy because the cell walls are weak. The cells also can't stick together, and when combined with weak cell walls, it creates weak tissue. When you bit into this tissue, it disintegrates in your mouth, separating the cells. This doesn't allow for the juiciness inside the vacuole to spill out, making it dry.
