There are five main steps that you need to complete to help you set your goal. These steps are Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Timely. These five steps are called the S.M.A.R.T. Goals. The first step is Specific. You have to set a goal that is very specific. These goals tend to have a greater chance of getting accomplished. There are six W's that you need to think about, "Who: Who is involved? What: What do I want to accomplish? Where: Identify a location. When: Establish a time frame. Which: Identify requirements and constraints. Why: Specific reasons, purpose or benefits of accomplishing the goal" (Preparing to Develop a Plan, 4). Specific plans will narrow down what you need to do, and how to accomplish your goal. The next step is Measurable. You need to measure your progress, this will help you stay on track. Stay on track means staying on target, "When you measure your progress, you stay on track, reach your target dates, and experience the exhilaration of achievement that spurs you on to continued effort required to reach your goal" (Preparing to Develop a Plan, 5). When you measure your progress you are more determined to keep going, if you didn't measure your progress you would stop trying to reach your goal. The next step is Attainable. When you want to reach a goal that is really important to you, you begin to look at ways on how to accomplish it. Some goals may seem far away, "Goals that may have seemed far away and out of reach eventually move closer and become attainable, not because your goals shrink, but because you grow and expand to match them" (Preparing to Develop a Plan, 5). When you grow up you begin to see your goals more clearly and different ways that can help you accomplish this goal. The forth step is Realistic. You want your goal to be realistic so that you can actually reach your goal. Your goal can be high and realistic at the same time. Your the only one who can chose how high your goal should be, "A high goal is frequently easier to reach than a low one because a low goal exerts low motivational force" (Preparing to Develop a Plan, 5). You should set a goal that will give you high motivation towards so that you can accomplish it easier. The last step is Timely. You should have a specific time frame in which you would like to reach your goal. Every goal should have a time frame, "With no time frame tied to it there's no sense of urgency" (Preparing to Develop a Plan, 5). The specific time frame will push you to accomplish your goal but with this you should also have a time frame that is attainable to you. These five steps are what you should consider every time you think about making a goal. These steps help make your goal specific, reachable, and completed in a timely manner.

Specific:
I am going to start eating more healthy. I am going to eat less junk food at my house and start eating fruits. I will accomplish this by the last day of school. It will become a habit of eating more healthy. I have to eat bananas and apples instead of cupcakes and ice cream. This will benefit not only my health now but a long term health choice.

Measurable:
I will keep a food book starting Monday, February 13th, 2017. This book will contain what i have eaten throughout the day. This will help me keep track of what healthy and non-healthy foods I am eating. I can then see what areas I need to back down from and when I should eat more fruit.

Attainable:
When I was little I could have not reached this goal because I could not stop eating cake. Now that I am older I have the control to not eat cake all the time and chose something more healthy instead. This makes me believe that I can now obtain this goal.

Realistic:
I want to be healthy for not only my whole life but also so that I can be able to have the energy to work out and play with my friends.

Timely:
I will eat healthy food instead of junk food form February 13th, 2017 to May 26th, 2017.

I chose to eat fruits instead of vegetables because I love fruit and I am more likely to eat them rather than vegetables. I will be more motivated to eat fruits because their are so many ways you can eat them. You can eat them plain, in a fruit salad, or even in a smoothie. For this goal I need to get my mom to buy fruits when we go to the store. The other thing that I need to do is to bake less. This weekend I baked a ton of sweets and I need to reduce how much I bake. This will not only help me with my goal but it will also help my Dad because he is trying to lose weight. If I stop baking, then he would not be tempted to eat it. Some risks that I would take are not being able to get the fruit and not having enough time to make something healthy. Fruit gets expensive in the winter and sometimes they get sold out at the store. In this Instance I would not have the supplies that I need to be able to reach my goal. The next risk is not having enough time to make anything. I am really busy all the time and I am always on the move. This makes it really hard to make a smoothie or even a bowl of fruit in a rush. In this case it is much easier to grab a cupcake and run out the door. Even though it is the easier chose i should have the will power to say "Yes it is the easier choice, but it's not the healthy choice."
