"The Crimes of Saddam Hussein" by Dave Johns observes, "At these camps, men and boys deemed old enough to carry a weapon were separated from women, the elderly and the young children." The Anfal Campaign took men and boys old enough to carry a weapon, because they were the strongest, and executed them. "What Caused the Anfal Genocide." claims, "Adult males fit for military service (between the ages of 15 and 50 years) who were considered to be insurgents were rounded up, transported from the concentration camps, and summarily executed in a move that aimed at exterminating adult male Kurds. The Human Rights watch also observes, "However, I found my home completely empty. My wife and my kids were not there. What a catastrophe! What a horror! I was told that the whole family had fallen into the hands of the Anfal forces in the Anfal operation counducted in the Northern region, under the leadership of Comrade Ali Hassan al-Majid." The Anfal did not tell the victims' families what was happening and took them without warning, so they would not flee. "Genocide Trial Hears from Anfal Victim" it states, "BULLOCK: Sabar al-Douri was head of Iraqi military intelligence at the time. He insisted no charges should be brought since that was a time of war, that the deaths of civilians couldn't be helped and, al-Douri said, the Anfal Campaign was launched to stop a specific plan by Iranians and Kurds to blow up two key dams in Iraq."
