The Japanese accepted the missionaries partly because they associated them with the muskets and other goods that they wanted to purchase from the europeans. Tokugawa Ieyasu was upset form of the success of the missionaries because he found aspects of the Christian invasion troublesome. At first, Ieyasu did not take any action, but by 1612 he banned Christianity and focused on ridding his country of all Christians.
