A landscape of great natural beauty, the whole valley was in ancient times thickly wooded and full of wild olive trees, from the leaves of which were made the wreaths that crowned the Olympian champions; hence the site was named Altis, meaning grove. It was also named Olympia after Mt Olympus, the abode of Zeus.
https://www.gtp.gr/TDirectoryDetails.asp?ID=14889

Museum of Ancient Greek Technology. It was founded by Kostas Kotsanas and holds about 300 operating reconstructions of mechanisms and inventions of the ancient Greeks covering the period from 2200 BC to 100 AD. This museum comes highly recommended by those who have visited it, especially those people who love machines. The ancient Greeks invented a number of surprising technical devices, many of which laid the foundation for the machines that make up our modern technological nightmare world. The hours are sporadic but it is usually open when the big ships come in. In the same building you can also visit the Museum of Ancient Greek Instruments.
http://kotsanas.com/gb/index.php

Residents of Kalamata pride themselves on living in a metropolitan area that’s also by the sea. Walk along the coastline to enjoy a view of the Messinian Bay and its harbor where traditional caiques, skiffs, sailboats and yachts are moored. The promenade is lined with cafeterias and features a playground.

May to October comprises the main season to sunbathe and swim, so you’ll see many people doing just that if you’re visiting during those months. The beaches located just east of the marina are lined with lounge chairs, for which patrons are not – unlike at many other seaside destinations around Greece – required to pay over and above a drink or meal order.

Additionally, if you’re the sporty kind of vacationer, some beaches offer kayak rentals; if you’re more daring, try paragliding from the nearby mountain Kalathi; and if you’re something of a fisherman, you may enjoy fishing all around the bay for tsipoura, kefalos and salpes.http://www.tfisteamlabs.com/greece.php

https://www.tripadvisor.com.gr/Tourism-g668020-Kalamata_Messenia_Region_Peloponnese-Vacations.html?fid=8fe811be-c15d-4fa1-bba9-392c1c816299
