Question 1:
According to psychologists, they believe that it is due to our fear response. Also, medical researchers believe that it is due to the brain's reward systems. Fear is an important natural response to prevent one from danger. It is also a way to motivate your body to preserve itself. However, some people like extreme athletes believe that overcoming fear is a constructive and meaningful event in their lives, and that it is a positive transformative experience. Thus, they will more likely participate in such extreme activities frequently as they feel that they can benefit from it. On the other hand, some people are also addicted to extreme sports due to sensation-seeking behaviour.

Question 2:
I used to think that extreme sports can only be performed by trained professional athletes and that it is very scary. Now, I learnt that extreme sports can be performed by anyone who is physically fit and brave enough to participate in such activities. I also learnt that extreme sports is although scary, but it also can be very fun and enjoyable. Therefore, some people like extreme athletes continue to participate in such activities.

The most thrilling extreme sport featured in the reading article is Wakeboarding. This is because seems to be quite easy and simple to the untrained eye but in reality, people wo have experienced it have gone through many difficulties and troubles but can also pull off some amazing and breath-taking tricks and stunts. When I first read about this extreme sport from the article, I felt very intrigued to know more about wakeboarding as I merely thought that it was a one-trick pony type of sport where you are only able to do one thing and not much else. I was proven wrong when I read about the most attractive aspect of this extreme sport that is one will be able to perform with utmost excellence and show-off to others how amazing at wakeboarding they are despite it being a simple sport to learn. I find that those who participate in this extreme sport are very courageous and are very brave as they have the will to conquer the waves of the ocean and ride on the surface of the ocean without worrying about drowning or animal attacks. In my opinion, I personally feel that I am more courageous and braver than others and I am very hopeful that one day I am able to try this activity to prove myself as courageous and brave.

The most exciting aspect of this extreme sport is that
not only can you feel the adrenaline rush it gives you, you can also admire the mesmerizing picturesque scenery on your way down. I find that those who participate in this extreme sport are adventurous as this sport really requires a lot of courage to participate as it has high elements and speed, two things that people are afraid of. In my opinion, I feel that it is a good choice if u want to feel the sudden adrenaline rush and look at the scenery at the same time.

The most thrilling extreme sport featured in the reading article is Red Dynasty Paintball. This is because this activity gets you into the thrill and mindset of being a soldier at war, or a videogame character in a first-person shooter, albeit with toy guns and uniforms. This creates a adrenaline rush that is activated with you fighting alongside your comrades. When I first read about this article, I felt that this would be perfect for whoever is a first-person shooter gamer, or people who would like to experience how to fight and shoot like a group. The most exciting aspect of this extreme sport is that you can modify your own paintball experience to your choice instead of sticking to one mode, as in most paintball sports. I found those who participate in this extreme sport can be either cold and calculating players or hot-blooded people who wants a shootout with their friends. In my opinion, this is one of the more satisfying sports, as it is not dangerous and more on the fun and competitive side of things. Given the opportunity, I would definitely try this sport as it is very appealing to me.

The most thrilling extreme sport featured in the reading article is red dynasty paintball. Finding yourself in the midst of combat, charging along with your teammates to defeat your opponents creates lots of adrenaline rush. Red dynasty paintball unleashes your inner warrior, allowing you to create strategies to outsmart your opponents, or even go full rambo and have fun with your friends. When I first read about this extreme sport from the article, I felt exhilarated. The concept of a team game fighting on a battleground with specialized equipment and gear simulates virtual shooting games that makes you feel anxious thinking about getting shot or shooting people. Having played such virtual shooting games online, I felt very excited to know that there was a similar game that could be played in real life. The most attractive aspect of the game of paintball is that there are dozens of ways to play it, with different types of scenarios, difficulty levels as well as rules to suit your taste and will never let you get bored. In my opinion, not only will these sport allow you to bond with your friends and family, it is a brilliant way to exercise. A paintball match is physically demanding, and you will be breaking a sweat without a doubt. The great thing is that you will get the same benefits of exercise, but it will not feel like a standard, boring workout, it all just feels thrilling and fun. Thus, given the opportunity, I would definitely jump at the chance to attempt this extreme sport one day

i personally feel like the most extreme sport featured in the article is bungee jumping. This is due to to the freedom of being able to pick the altitude and locations of your jump. These options are perfect for my timid self as i am not comfortable with heights and would like to try building up my confidence with shorter jumps so i do not embarrass myself in front of people. reading the article i felt a mix of awe and excitement as i had never overcame my fear of heights and seeing a sport based around heights made me feel rather scared but weirdly i felt enticed to the activity. the look of the bright blue waters below with the relaxed looking jumper on the article captivated my attention greatly. i feel like given the change i would definitely love to try this activity to both build up my self-confidence and also cure my lust for adrenaline that the covid-19 pandemic has left me since lockdown.

The most thrilling extreme sport featured in the reading article is bungee jumping, because bungee jumping put simply is an exhilarating adventure sport, which involves you jumping off an extremely high platform. Whilst bungee jumping, the rush of wind on your face, creates lots of adrenaline to course through your entire body. When I first read about this extreme sport from the article, I felt a rush of excitement. Being a person who loves heights, this activity definitely sparked my interest. The most attractive aspect of this activity is definitely the height at which you jump at. At Sentosa, the bungee tower is 50 metres high, equivalent to 15 stories high. I find that those who participate in this extreme sport are extremely daring as, they have to muster up the courage they have in order to even stand at the edge of the platform ready to jump. In my opinion, this sport will allow those who have a fear of heights, to get over it by facing it head-on. Secondly, bungee jumping is also a great exercise to burn calories. Given the opportunity, I would undoubtedly not think twice about participating in this thrilling sport.

Question 1: I think the main reason why people are addicted to extreme sports is because of the amount of adrenaline they get when doing such sports. They´ll help you push your limits, get rid of fear, improve ourselves and reach new goals. They are, without a doubt, a different way to get to know oneself better and to find a deep well-being. Adrenaline, a hormone that prepares the body to face external stimuli. It acts as a vasodilator and improves our respiratory capacity so that more oxygen reaches the muscles. In consequence you´ll feel strong, agile, fast, and reducing fear. Adrenaline helps you give the best of yourself. After experiencing this change in your body, another reaction occurs, that is endorphins, another hormone related to happiness, appears. This has a powerful analgesic effect and generates a feeling of well-being and joy.

All this makes people to feel addicted to experience these sensations that risky sports produce and to increasingly feel the need of more and new stimuli. This is also because the body gets accustomed to these feelings and it becomes necessary to rise the level of risk to reach certain states of excitement.

Question 2:
What I used to know- Extreme sports are sports that often lead to many major and minor injuries that can change your life for the worse.

What I now know: Extreme sports actually can make you much happier and also help you keep fit but it comes with the risk of getting addicted to it to the point where these risks are very high and can cause bad injuries.

This is because spectators will have the chance to watch their favourite Formula 1 drivers in action reaching up to insane speeds of up to 372.5 km/h, a record currently held by Valteri Bottas. When I first read about this extreme sport from this article, I felt a rush of blood in my body, excited by the sound of the sport and how fascinating it would be to take part in. The most attractive aspect of this sport is the fact that one can witness groundbreaking technology in action while simultaneously fulfilling their need for speed. As part of this process, the brain releases large amounts of dopamine, a powerful chemical closely linked to feelings of pleasure and reward. Exercising, talking to loved ones, eating, and other certain activities trigger a release of dopamine to reinforce "good" and healthy behaviors. Extreme athletes experience the fear of death, releasing large amounts of dopamine, and they enjoy a natural high of sorts. The problem, though, is the human brain can get accustomed to operating at these high dopamine levels, pushing extreme athletes to constantly seek out more dangerous, adventurous activities.
Qn2
i used to think that extreme sports was only performed by very skilled, trained professionals. now i know that anyone who are interested can participate in extreme sports

The most thrilling extreme sport featured in this writing article is the roller coasters at Universal Studios Singapore. This is because of the satisfaction of adrenaline cravings that we get from going at high speeds on the roller coaster, for example, the Cylon track goes at a whopping speed of 90 km/h. When I first read about this extreme sport from the article, I felt my heart racing just from the thought of being on the roller coaster. The most exciting aspect of this extreme sport is that we can experience a minute of exhilaration, thrill and fear itself, and also weightlessness when in freefall. I find that those who participate in this extreme sport are adventurous as a lot of courage is needed to take the roller coaster and to go at extreme speeds. In my opinion, this extreme sport would give the most adrenaline rush due to the thrill you experience during the ride. Given the opportunity, I would like to attempt this extreme sport one day because of the sensation of fear and the satisfaction of adrenaline cravings I can feel.

For most people, overcoming fears is a meaningful and constructive event in their lives. While doing extreme sports people definitely experience fear however, it is not perceived as a negative experience, but rather a positive experience. Extreme athletes experience the fear of death, releasing large amounts of dopamine, a powerful chemical closely linked to feelings of delight and contentment, and they enjoy a natural high of sorts. Though these extreme sports may cause serious injury or death, the reason people continue to participate in extreme sports, aside from them being fun, is once their brain accustomed to operating at these high dopamine levels, pushing extreme athletes to constantly seek out more dangerous, adventurous activities, sort of like an addiction.

1) people get addicted to extreme sports due to the chemicals in their body. The aspect of our lives hanging on by a thread evokes a sense of fear in us, causing large amounts of dopamine--a powerful reward chemical in our brain, to be released. Extreme athletes provoke that fear response, enjoying the natural high from the dopamine release that follows. They get hooked onto these sensations, and hence increasingly crave the need for more and new stimuli. Once the brain gets acclimated to higher levels of dopamine, it is difficult to wean it off, resulting in the constant need to do more extreme sports, thus causing addiction
2) I used to know that extreme sports is only something people do to get away from the monotonous life and experience a sense of thrill and excitement.

There are many reasons as to why people can get addicted to extreme sports.
Firstly, researchers have said that for some people, overcoming fear was a meaning and constructive experience. Even though they still experience fear, it is mostly viewed positively rather than negatively. This implies that when people manage to overcome their fears while doing extreme sports, it makes them feel more confident and accomplished. Instead of getting addicted to the extreme sports, people get addicted to the feeling of accomplishment after successfully doing the extreme sport.
Secondly, the adrenaline surge makes them feel strong, agile and fast hence increasing the euphoria and reducing fear. This makes them enjoy the extreme sport more than dread it. It also releases happy hormones.
Overall, this makes people feel hooked as they enjoy experiencing these sensations that risky sports produce and to increasingly feel the need of more and new stimuli. The body will then get accustomed to these new feelings and it becomes a necessity to reach certain levels of excitement.

Red Dynasty Paintball is the most thrilling extreme sport featured in the article. This extreme sport is like a war simulation without actual deaths and almost zero serious consequences, if played properly. It allows you to bring out the warrior within you to defeat your opponents, with your fellow teammates and complete your given objectives. When I first read about this extreme sport from the article, I felt eager to want to try this extreme sport with my family and friends. The idea of being on this battlefield with my family and friends really interests me as I would like to see how they would operate in those types of conditions. The most exciting part of this sport is that it is a ‘one shot, one kill’ type of game. There is no turning back and the only way to win is if you ‘kill’ your opponents by shooting them and complete your objectives. If you miss and your shot doesn’t hit your opponent, you are most likely the one to ‘die’. In my opinion, this extreme sport will not only allow you to experience a war like simulation, this would allow you to bond with your friends and family and learn important skills such as good communication, teamwork, problem solving and decision making. Given the opportunity, I would definitely want to participate in this extreme sport as it would be a good opportunity to learn valuable skills while having fun and bonding with my family and friends.

The most thrilling extreme sport featured in the reading article is the iFly Singapore. This is because I have always wanted to know what it was to be airborne and floating in the air and strong horsepower of the winds from the fan below pushes me up against gravity. When I first read about this extreme sport from this article, I felt intrigued. I have always watched videos of people going on Zero-G aeroplanes and being airborne for a couple of seconds just to stimulate what is it like with no gravity. I have always been interested with this stuff since young. I find that those who participate in this activity have a lot of guts because they can feel nauseous from this and be really really sick. iFly Singapore programme is to stimulate how people will feel when they skydive from extreme heights in the air and and therefore this programme also acts like a training session for them. I find those who skydive really brave and courageous of what they are doing. If they mess up while airborne, they know they are potentially close to death as even if there is something to aid them in case of an emergency, they are not mentally prepared for what is to come and thus end up dying tragically. Given the opportunity, I will definitely participate in the iFly programme in Singapore to get an experience of being airborne in the sky however still pretty skeptical if I would like to skydive. Overall, both experience would be a memorable one.

We perform risky behaviours because of our fear response and our brain’s reward system. Fear is an important inborn response to perceive danger. Our body’s top priority to preserve it, fear motivates it to do so. But for some people like extreme sport enthusiasts, overcoming fear is a meaningful and constructive event in their lives. The fear they experience is not seen as a negative, but rather a positive experience. Extreme athletes provoke this fear response in themselves, experiencing the fear of death and enjoying the natural high they get from the dopamine release that follows. The problem is that the brain can get used to the high levels of dopamine, and thus, more extreme events may have to be performed to simply enjoy day to day life. Like an addict, the brain craves more dopamine to feel the same high. In the end, the risk and reward are real and people can alter their brain chemistry to get this natural high from things like BASE jumping. Thus, people get addicted to extreme sports to get that natural high from the increased dopamine levels that are released.

Qn 1 : Why do people get addicted to extreme sports? Write in 100-120 words
many extreme sports athletes researchers have pointed to the brain's amygdala, a region in our brain that releases hormones that quicken the heart in preparation for the "fight or flight" instinct. as part of this process, the brain releases large amounts of dopamine, a powerful chemical closely linked to feelings of pleasure and reward. exercising, talking to loved ones, eating, and other certain activities trigger a release of dopamine to reinforce "good" and healthy behaviors. extreme athletes experience the fear of death, releasing large amounts of dopamine, and they enjoy a natural high of sorts. the problem, though, is the human brain can get accustomed to operating at these high dopamine levels, pushing extreme athletes to constantly seek out more dangerous, adventurous activities.
Qn 2 : Reflection - What I used to know about extreme sports and What I now know about extreme sports.

i used to think that extreme sports is very dangerous and its better to not have such sports that put people's lives in danger. It seems very risky and not a good thing to just play with death so easily..

Which extreme sport is the most thrilling and why?
The most thrilling extreme sport featured in the reading article is MegaZip Adventure. This is because due to the location and elevation of the activity, I feel that it will give me the largest adrenaline rush. When I first read about this extreme sport from the article, I felt intrigued and wanted to try the activity as it seemed very appealing to overcome my fear of heights. The most attractive aspect of this extreme sport is that we travel 450m hanging onto a harness at 75 metres above ground and at a great speed of 60km/h.It makes me want to try out the activity as I have only been on a zipline of a smaller scale. I find that those who participate in this extreme sport are very fun people as seek thrill and enjoy outdoor activities, unlike those who are close minded and would not dare to try it.In my opinion, I think we should always give something a try, to see what we enjoy and find happiness in. Given the opportunity, I would like to attempt this extreme sport one day because besides the speed and height, the sunny island scenery surrounding the activity is one reason I'd never want to miss out on this activity.

1.Why do people get addicted to extreme sports?

People get addicted to extreme sports because they end up feeling happy. Extreme sports involves putting one's life at risk in order to fulfill a certain sport that is especially dangerous. Naturally, fear is instilled in us when we find ourselves in dangerous situations. However, people who enjoy extreme sports, having overcome fear multiple times and felt it's effect on their minds, do it for the sense of happiness and reward after. And it becomes a vicious cycle where one seeks for more and more dopamine high, and feels the need to try sports at a larger risk in order to feel more thrill and adrenaline. Thus they get addicted to extreme sports.

2.Reflection - What I used to know about extreme sports and What I now know about extreme sports

I used to enjoy watching videos of people filming themselves doing extreme sports as i felt the same sense of adrenaline, excitement and also anticipation as i watched what was happening behind my screen. Apart from the most common reason being it can get our bodies full of adrenaline, some people say that it helps them overcome their fear of certain things (height etc..). Some people go to the extent where they will go very very close to death just to enjoy a life-endangering experience, which sometimes may be their last activity they'd do. The bravery and courage that one must put when attempting the extreme sport is immeasurable and therefore they are honoured for doing deadly activities. People get addicted to extreme sports because of they do not see the fear of doing extreme sports to be negative, but instead they see it as an achievement or a positive action as they feel that they have overcome their fears and they feel encouraged to participate in more extreme sports. Not only that, but when one participates in an extreme sport, a chemical called dopamine, is released from the brain which is like the same feeling when someone is addicted to drugs. Moreover, research shows that the same amount of dopamine released by a person who consumed ecstasy is equivalent to the amount of dopamine released by a person who is doing an extreme sport.
