The battle of Agincourt began when the English forces attacked the northern France on the 13. August 1415. From there Henrik V besieged Harfleur, which were the home of 12’000 English soldiers. However, besieging the town weren’t as easy as that. Because, the villagers of the town didn’t surrender before 22. Of September, which led to that, the soldiers got orders to not move further before 8. Of October. This led to that there would be a lesser time before the winter hit, and would eliminate any chance of attacking during the time. Therefore, Henrik V decided to move 9’000 men to Calais, which were an English point of support. From there they’d overwinter, because attacking during the winter would be suicide for the English men.

The French decided to intend in the battle as prescheduled. The forces met at a 700-meter long field in-between of the forest between Tramecourt and Agincourt. They both slept their last night at the battlefront. The French had the advantage on their side since, the Englishmen was exhausted of the long day marches.

When Henrik V placed the forces, he used the terrain in his favor. Especially the longbow archers were hidden in the forest on both sides of the field. Here they stood shoulder to shoulder on four rows.

The battle were triggered by the Frenchmen, which stormed out on the field. This was started despite the fact that they weren’t planned amount of soldiers or organized. However, already from start the battle was a disaster, when the French didn’t succeed to get around the English archers, which were placed in the impenetrate able forest, nor the Palisades, which protected the archers.

Even though the French had more than three times the size of Henrik V’s army, they still came to a mess when they stormed out. They had to run the 300 meters that remained in thick mud and an extra 20-30 kilos in armory while arrows were falling over them. When the French made it to the battlefront, the archers dropped their longbows, and started to go into an close fight with the infantry. The French were already exhausted from running the 300 meters in deep mud, and were slaughtered. After three hours of battling the first, second and the third line of the French defense were eliminated.
