Professional “Take Away” from Reviewing Resources:

My key takeaway on burnout is that the professional stress a counselor endures becomes a liability to a student's ability to succeed. This burnout is caused by several factors, including emotional exhaustion, a lack of empathy, and a sense of ineffectiveness. While a counselor's primary responsibility is to provide support to others, it is often overlooked the importance of self-care and nurturing one's emotional well-being.

Recognizing when you're heading toward burnout is really important for your well-being. The first step is to seek out a support system that can help you manage these feelings. Whether it's friends, family, or another counselor. Finding activities that busy both your body and mind is needed when separating work life and personal life. It could be as simple as regular exercise, like taking a walk at the park and eating healthy to hanging out with friends or simply taking time to relax. All in all it is about making time for you. Take that nap.

Two strategies I found important in Chapter 1:Taking Care of Yourself under the heading "Improving Your Self Care Practices" are the importance of making an appointment for myself and reenergizing.

I often find myself taking myself to all my favorite clothing stores just to walk it off and give myself "me" time. Then I end up going and getting myself a sweet treat to treat myself for a heavy day.

My second strategy is reenergizing, I need to allow myself time to reflect and get my full 8 hours of sleep. I find myself in a "work, work, work" mode but never ever slowing down. I burn myself out without giving my mind a break. I end up almost always getting 5-6 hours of sleep a night. (not the healthiest habit)
