I hope that my students can shape and appreciate their own personal relationship to writing instead of always mediating that through classes.

I always encourage my students to question, to question anything. Question the systems around them, question their authority figures, question their friends. It was the most important thing I learned in art school, and If I can impart anything to my students, I want it to be this.

I didn't mention it in class on Monday, I want to today. I initially didn't know how to go about addressing it, but I think not addressing it is worse.

I had a moment of silence in my class on Monday, but I would like for those conversations to be more accessible and open.

I want to make sure that students feel cared for in class by me specifically. This can

I acknowledged it on Monday and referred them to UW's resources,

I also held a moment of silence and reminded my students that they are people first, before students. This time in our lives is very hard for a lot of serious reasons, and that is ok

I always instruct them to pick something they're curious about, not something they already know. We talked about topics on Monday that I've set as "off limits," not because of their controversial nature, but because these topics are saturated with data and research and dissertation-sized analysis, and there's no way they could add anything new in 1750 words.

I did an "expert mode" session on Monday where we (as a class) acknowledged some topics that might be tougher to write about.

I always hope that students treat this opportunity to answer their "I wonder" questions that they may have. I hope they treat the research and idea formulation as playful because that's what it really is in

I encouraged them to choose a topic that they can shape their opinion through research
