Where There Are Experts There Will Be No Lack of Learners - Analysis

The African proverb "Where there are experts there will be no lack of learners" means that a true expert is never really done learning. This proverb supports the idea that if you keep a beginner's mind and always are open to new ideas you are closer to becoming an expert than someone who doesn't have a beginner's mind. If one believes that they are an expert, that means that there is nothing else that they can learn, when in reality, no human being can ever learn everything that the world has to offer. This proverb could also represent a strong leader who is always open to learning from his or her followers. A weak leader tends to be afraid of their followers, believing that they know everything and that they are superior to their followers. That kind of leader is the weakest kind while a leader that is willing to learn and listen is the strongest kind of leader. This proverb also relates to a quote from the Dalai Lama, who is the leader of Buddhists, "When you talk, you are only repeating what you already know. But if you listen, you may learn something new." This quote means that as a person you will never learn anything from speaking, but if you just listen there are many things that you can learn. This quote supports the proverb by saying that someone who listens will be much more intelligent and wise than someone who only speaks. The wisest and smartest people are the people who aren't afraid to listen. The people who do not listen, no matter how intelligent, will never get as far as the people who do listen. Overall, this proverb teaches us that the true expert opens up their eyes and ears to the world, always ready to learn more.
