Over the course of my expedition we ran into a lot of different indian tribes. Some of the Native Americans were the kindest people ever, but some were ruthless. One out of many tribes we met was the Blackfeet Indians.

We met the Blackfeet Indians in Montana, we only met eight blackfeet warriors who feared us at first, but there fears subsided and they camped out with us. I told them about how I’m trying to make peace between all the Native Americans in the west. I told them how we made peace with the Blackfeet enemies, the Shoshones and Nez Perces. They took my message as a threat and they thought that this will weaken the Blackfeet Indians power. That night, the Blackfeet Indians made a plan to take our weapons, but it turned into chaos as shots fired. We shot one of the Blackfeet warrior’s. It was our first act of bloodshed between the Western Indians. The other Blackfeet warriors return back to their tribe to tell them what happened between us. Their tribe attacked us and killed three members of the Corps of Discovery.

Plants:

Over the course of our expedition, we ran into many different types of plants and animals. We collected hundreds of plant specimens and we also recorded information on their habitats and their growth. We discovered many plants that were edible. Native Americans showed us the plants they eat and they helped us with many of the discoveries.
One of my favorite plants we discovered was the Antelope Bitterbrush. The Antelope Bitterbrush is a member of the rose family. The rose family includes of 2,000 species of trees, shrubs, and herbs. There habitat is coarse, well drained soil at elevations from near sea level. It is also native to mountainous areas of western North America.
Animals:

During the expedition we discovered a lot of different animals. We saw different kinds of fish and deer. We encountered so many buffalo’s that one time we had to club them away. In fact, one time it looked like a moving carpet. My team and I described at least 120 mammals. We also described fish, reptiles, and birds. We sent back many zoological specimens of the animals we found.
I thought that the grizzly bears were the kings of the western plains. The bears were really tough, they will tend to attack us. Grizzly bears were so tough that when we shot seven times at them, they still were alive. These bears were very fascinating, they were extremely tough and protective.

I would take Sacagawea because she is very bright and could help us with other Native Americans we meet. Sacagawea was living among the Mandan and Hidatsa tribes. Sacagawea knew a lot about the land we were traveling on. She showed us many different plants and animals. Sacagawea knew the landscape very well and helped us with traveling.

Sacagawea was a good person to bring on the expedition because she knew Native American language and could help us with the different tribes we meet. She helped us get horses so we can travel over the mountain. Her presence would also make the Native Americans think that we were not a threat.

As you can see, Sacagawea would be a good person to bring along on the expedition. She would help us with the different Native American tribes we met, help us with the plants and animals, and she also knew the landscape very well. We couldn’t be alive without her outstanding knowledge about the west.
