I used this image because it demonstrates the connection between nature and people quite literally but there is also more explanation behind the image. Butterflies help pollinate plant species and about 1/3 of the food we eat depends on the plants that pollinators (such as butterflies) pollinate so it shows how our survival depends on the animals in our environment.

I used this image because if there is anywhere that, in one place, demonstrates how large the human population is, it's a theme park. Disneyland is constantly packed with people and when you really see everyone around you, that's when you can put a face to the millions of cars causing air pollution or the millions of pieces of trash being thrown into the ocean by US.

This picture was one that was taken when we went on a hike this summer. All hikes have walking trails that are flat and safe for people to enjoy without having to trip over rocks or make their way through trees/branches. Obviously, these trails are man made, man destroys the nature in the way in order to make way for us! It demonstrates how humans alter the environment for their own enjoyment.

I felt like this image went with the theme of "urban environments" because it was taken in LA, the most populated (and most polluted) city in California. It is very well known for its urban vibe and many dream of living there, which definitely foreshadows the increase of population in cities.

G. The Precautionary Principle

I chose this picture because it was taken at the beach and I feel like "precautionary principle" would be very important in a place that is very busy over the summer. The beach is a public place full of marine life, so let's say something went wrong. Let's say scientific studies were showing an increase in sharks spotted near the shore or there was something mixing with the water that could potentially be toxic to us. It is a social responsibility to keep the public from these risks.

For this theme, I chose an image of me at a very popular eco-archeological park in Mexico. They call it an "ecotourism development" because they are using the ecological factors of this area to attract tourists. More tourists = more high solid waste production, more pollution, and more trash. It shows how environmental problems really do have a cultural context because the culture of the area plays a big part as to why so many people visit which is causing more issues.

This picture was taken in a place in Mexico known for their natural wonders known as Cenotes- a natural pit or underwater cave/cavern. The water has a special layering of minerals and were used in ancient Mayan rituals. Freshwater is a renewable resource/sustainable system that we as humans depend on- whether it be for survival or for our human-built systems such as our businesses. If freshwater was not a sustainable resource, it would not have been used in those rituals to cure the sick or used as an attraction today. (P.S I am the one in the back on the left, I swear)
