Helga Hoskova-Weissova was born in Prague in 1929 to her mother, Irena Fuchsova, and her father, Otto Weiss. In 1944 at an Auschwitz station platform Weiss lied about her age to the Nazis, and claimed she was old enough to work. This is why she is known as the schoolgirl who escaped the Holocaust by fooling the Nazis. One Nazis in general was Josef Mengele. Mengele was a member of the team of doctors responsible for the selection of victims to be killed in the gas chambers and for performing deadly human experiments on prisoners.

The impact that Helga Weiss had was she saved her and the rest of her family's life because she lied about her age, and her edge ability to work. Weiss was also one of only 150 to 1,500 children to survive of the 15,000 that were sent to Terezin.
