         <description><![CDATA[<div>-There are many instances noted where he assimilated himself into the communities of people he was stationed with learning about their language and cultures thus earning their respect and admiration.&nbsp;<br><br>-Before entering the military in 1882, he taught African-American students at Prairie Mound School in Missouri<br><br>- In his first assignment with the Sixth Cavalry, he was stationed in New Mexico and Arizona where he fought Apaches led by Geronimo.<br><br>-Was once the nations' best-known military commander<br><br>-In 1898, he led 10th Calvary (an all African American troop known as the Buffalo Soldiers because they believed their hair resembled that of a buffalo) soldiers up San Juan Hill during the Spanish American War and caught the attention of Teddy Roosevelt. Because of his time with the 10th Calvary he earned the nickname Black Jack.&nbsp;<br><br>-After leading US Forces during WW1, he was honored as the highest-ranking General in the U.S. Army's history until he died in 1948.&nbsp;<br><br>- won the Pulitzer Prize for history for his two-volume book set,"My Experiences in the World War"<br><br>-was a mentor to a generation of U. S. Army generals including George S. Patton, Dwight D. Eisenhower, George C. Marshall, and Omar Bradley who led the United States in World War II(Reed, L. 2017)<br><br>-He was able to hire the right man for the right job, effectively building a team that had all the necessary attributes needed that he didn't necessarily possess.&nbsp;<br><br>-He respected subordinates who dared speak truth to power when he was wrong in his decision-making (Faulkner).<br><br><br><br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>- Unable to capture Pancho Villa<br><br>-often accused of being slow to comprehend the profound changes in warfare. Because of this, his professional education caused him to be ill-prepared to address tactical and operational dilemmas<br><br><br>- Many thought he didn't deserve the promotion from President Theodore Roosevelt to brigadier general. The promotion was controversial because Pershing bypassed more than eight hundred senior officers, and many thought it was because he was married to a senator's daughter.<br><br>-devastated by the loss of his wife and daughters killed in a fire. Many say he never recovered from the tragedy (Kukuljan &amp; Haper, 2021).&nbsp;<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Pershing seemed to be an intelligent man that wasn't discriminatory. He learned all he could to assimilate himself and be respected by adversaries. Although he might react hastily, he would still listen to his men and therefore not only could he recognize talent, he could also retain it. Being able to build a skilled team and rise to technological challenges are always going to be necessary attributes of a successful leader. </div>]]></description>
