One observation I learnt is that IT values the transmission of sense, which involves meaning intending to be conveyed by the speaker and transmitted with emotions and context, rather than a literal word-for-word rendition. The method involves three stages in the cognitive process: comprehension (listening, viewing, reading), deverbalization (some intermediate indeterminate stage where the verbal information is sort of lost), and reformulation (the act of interpretation per se). The practical origin of this theory (in the work of professional interpreters) and its rejection of rigid linguistic methods show how much its proponents prioritize what works in actual communication.

Like how humans can interpret a word like "Eh?" with varied expression in their head when reading the text (This happens when I read some manhwa during my past times), while AI Model explains "Eh?" by reading through the full text and "interpret" them by concluding the expression and meaning behind that simple word. We, as humans when it comes to interpret a text, might had to wait for the next page to actually interpret a text, while AI used the information from the given text to interpret it based on their theoretical engine that was given by them. It's basically Humans' element of surprise vs AI textual adaptability in terms of Interpretive Theory.

It made me realize that sometimes you need both the big ideas and the nitty-gritty stuff to really understand something.

What I Now Get About Interpretive Theory:
Before this, IT seemed like just another translation method to memorize. But digging deeper showed me it's really about helping people actually understand each other. The "bun and raisins" thing finally clicked. It’s not about translating word for word, but making sure the real meaning comes through in a way that makes sense to the listener. That's way more useful than I originally thought.

In exploring IT, students consistently observed that it prioritises conveying the sense of a message rather than literal translation, following a three-step process of comprehension, deverbalisation, and reformulation. They also highlighted the significance of context, tone, and emotion in interpretation, reinforcing IT’s communicative and meaning-oriented approach..

My first observation is I understood the Interpretive Theory (IT) in a basic way. I knew it was about understanding the meaning behind the words, and not just translating word-for-word. I could explain it using simple examples like idioms or emotional expressions. But as I worked through this task with the help of AI, my understanding became clearer and more structured. The AI helped me break down the key parts of IT, like comprehension, deverbalization, and reformulation, and showed how they work together in real-time interpretation. It also explained complex ideas in a way that still made sense to me, like the difference between correspondence and equivalence using the currant bun metaphor. Overall, AI helped me see both the practical and theoretical sides of IT, and made me feel more confident in explaining it beyond just simple examples.
