Reflective Work/ Feedback Form

Our group's focus was less on homework and rather more on conversations, as many schools do not give homework, so having class conversations is important! Having conversations at the end of the lesson to understand how the students feel/ what they liked/ where they thought the educator could improve. Simiarly, providing a feedback form would have a similar effect (if not better), as students who are more 'shy' to speak in social spaces will also be able to voice their opinions on how the educator can improve.

We will get to know all of the students in our classroom to make sure we are aware of their needs and differences. When the students feel like they are heard they are more confident and engaged in their learning. We will also make sure we are always using inclusive language throughout our lessons.

I always try to use the diversity of the classroom to help my lesson planning. Allow students to share cultural traditions, family recipes, etc to help their me and their classmates better understand each other.

Grouping students randomly, rather than letting them choose their groups, allows everyone in the class to get to know each other and hear from a diverse range of perspectives. This can help foster a safe learning environment where everyone is valued and feels comfortable with each other.

Including multimodal assessments and offering students a choice in how they complete the assignment.

Avoiding forcing learners to complete a task in a singular method.

Ensure that activities/options play on the strengths of students in some way (ex: including a variety of things students are good at and incorporating that into an assignment/activity.

For students who have trouble understanding the concepts, approach the student to provide extra help or having their peers help them.
Allowing students to choose the topics and formats they want to do for their assignments (either on paper or online)

Being a student teacher means being an extra body in the room. This means that there are more educator resources available to give extra attention to students who need it. I get to do that in my practicum. But it begs the question of, what do you do ordinarily when there really isn't enough teacher/educator to go around?

Kinaesthetic learning is often missing in traditional classroom settings, so being aware of how students can express knowledge using movement. Allowing students to be active participants in the classroom is vital to their progress

We will work to get to know our students. We will actually review their IEP's and ensure that the accommodations, modifications, and resources needed are being implemented in our classroom. We will advocate for our students.

In order for all students in the classroom to have the tools they need to succeed, getting to know them and their styles of learning and communicating is essential. Offering options when it comes to submission and assessments as well as the format of the materials we are presenting (audio, visual, written etc.) can help ensure that all students have a choice they can feel comfortable with. When it comes to social justice, I think it would be great to come up with a cause that the class cares about at the beginning of the term (for example, when we are making class norms) so that we can include this cause throughout the year in our projects.
