Our economy today...

Our economy today has largely grown ever since we had lost the bakery to the new market on the block. Over the years, there have been many other multinational corporations that opened near our city of Landour and we have definitely benefited from them. I now see many different kinds of fruits, vegetables, snacks and drinks from all over the world due to our increasing export-based industry. Our export capacity is getting larger, allowing us to benefit from international trade and investment opportunities. Our export competitiveness has also increase, allowing us to work harder to innovate and create better products for our people of Landour! I can't wait to see what our future will look like due to this immense growth in our economy and environment. And it all began with the opening of one multinational corporation. I hope to pursue my dreams in working as a supervisor alongside my mum, learning about new things and keeping my family fed. I would like to say thank you to my mum and dad for creating a brighter future for myself and others in our community. Also a big and final thank you to my new favourite drink, Coca-Cola!

What a big change! I am not quite sure if it is because of our improved conditions of living, however, the air seems more crisp and the water tastes more pure. It can possibly be due to the changes and regulations made to our beautiful city of Landour. Ever since the multinational corporation, Coca-Cola, opened and my parents had found a job, there have been many changes made to make our environment cleaner and safer to live in. My mum had told me that multinational corporations work towards increasing their high pollution controls and energy-efficient standards when opening new factories overseas. She had mentioned that in many cases, such as ours, pollution levels in waste streams are significantly lower in multinational corporations than waste streams in private and state owned firms. I think that we definitely benefited from this action since pollution levels in some parts of India can be highly toxic.

Sadly enough, my parents were raised in a poor family that was ravished by poverty. My father, who was a young boy, was lucky enough to attend school and learn how to read and write. My mum on the other hand, was seen as a mere girl who couldn't accomplish anything and wasn't sent to school. However, this new job offers my mum endless possibilities! She told us that the job offers education and training to their employees in order to help them increase productivity and ability to perform work routines more efficiently. This multinational corporation is making my mum's dreams of having an education come true. :')

How my parents finally found a job!

What a lucky day! I came home from school one day to learn that my parents had found a job at a factory that had just opened a couple miles away. It is called "Coca-Cola" which is a brand that I recalled seeing at a small food stop in New Delhi, India on a family trip. This is a multinational corporation that decided to open a factory new my small city. The job offers $7.50 an hour. What an amazing opportunity! This is hopefully going to increase our quality of life since it is generating employment all over our city and also has a positive impact on our welfare. My parents are going to receive provisions of new products, programs to improve their health, housing, education, and improve our standard of living. This is because employees working for multinational corporations tend to earn better wages than working at local firms. Way to go, mum and dad!

Hello, my name is Sema and I am from Landour, India. My parents have been struggling to find a job since their bakery had run out of business due to the loss of customers from the local market that opened next door. Therefore, my parents failed to pay their monthly rent and lost their business. I am devastated because my parents worked so hard to grow their bakery and struggle hard to take care of my 3 younger brothers and I. Since I'm only 14, I struggle as well, trying to help my parents whenever they need me to fetch something for them. This loss has affected us significantly. We were so accustomed to eating variety of foods that mum cooked for dinner, to not being able to pay for the extra lump of rice at the market.
