The speaker in this song is the artist David Kushner, but it is through the point of view of an older man. Kushner wrote this song with the idea and inspiration from the passing of his uncles late father-in-law.

The Audience of this song is Kushner's family. The purpose of this song is to show a perspective of what this disease does to a person and the effects it has on families. It also plays with ideas of mental health. The subject of this song is internal struggle.

Kushner sets a very somber tone throughout this song, hinting at themes of sadness, nostalgia, loneliness, and disbelief.

Kushner put quite a few examples of logos, or the appeal to an audiences sense of logic or reason in this song. One lyric that shows this logos appeal is, "But have some patience for the part of me that's lost", which appears on line two. Kushner is telling the audience to have patience for the memories, or part of him that is gone. These lyrics providing a clear message, without any figurative language. Telling the audience, instead of suggesting. Another set of lyrics that uses logos appeals appear on lines three, four, and five, "There's been a hundred times/ When I don't recognize/ Any of you that love me". Kushner is providing the listener with a time frame, and a clear message of not recognizing someone. Finally, the lyric, "I try to memorize and identify" on line six. This lyric telling the listener that this man is trying to remember. This lyric also being straight to the point and leaving nothing up for imagination or interpretation.

Pathos, or the appeal to emotion is shown in many lines of this song. In line ten Kushner uses the lyric "are you lonely?". This simple lyric appeals to the emotions of sadness, loneliness, love, and concern. By asking this question, the listener is able to reflect on their own lives, as well as the life of the man in the song. Another lyric that plays at the listeners emotions appears in line eight "My head is in the clouds right now". Kushner used the metaphor of a "head being in the clouds" to show the absentminded aspect of a person suffering from Alzheimer's. This lyric also plays on the emotions of sadness, fear, and uncertainty. Lastly, the lyric "You used to be my heart/ And now you're just a face", which appears in lines twenty-four and twenty-five. These lyrics showing a loss of identity in a sad tone. A feeling of heartbreak, sadness, and confusion also being shown.

David Kushner acting as the speaker attempts to tell this family suffering the effects of a family member with Alzheimer's to show the internal and external battle of this disease. They use the appeals of logos and pathos in the lyrics. They also use the appeals of logos and pathos in the video to get this message across. In analyzing the lyrics and video, it appears that their use of appeals is effective in convincing their intended audience.

Overall, Kushner used these different appeals to further his recognition of people with Alzheimer's. By playing on his audiences heart-strings, and setting a sad tone, Kushner's message was seen easily. Therefore I do believe that he was effective in convincing his audience that the internal and external battle of Alzheimer's is challenging and saddening.

Kushner uses logos to show the audience what he is talking about. By not using figurative language or suggesting, Kushner appeals to the logical side of listeners- rather than the imaginative side of listeners. Kushner does this by using facial expressions and the characters in the video themselves.
