I like the amethyst on the cake because it is my birthstone and seems to be the most fitting for a birthday. I believe that no cake would be perfect for me since there's always that gap for improvement, but if I had to choose (just for this assignment) I would choose a cake that isn't too flashy, colorful, or containing jelly. Instead I would take a cake that is simple and easy to make, as for shape just a simple circle is good enough for me, flavor wise I guess coffee or green tea. But when it comes to a friend, family, or baking for my school I would actually push myself to bake a good cake or pastry for them.
