The protagonist of The Last Apprentice: Attack of the Fiend, is Tom Ward. Tom is known in the other books as the apprentice of the Spook, John Gregory. This apprenticeship isn't like any other which makes him different. Tom being a seventh son of a seventh son gives him a gift that could help the county and it's people. With this gift he has learned that being his modest, introverted self needs to change in order to save himself and the people he loves. In addition, Tom has learned that caring for people is painful because of his line of work. This book especially focuses on the fact that loving someone is dangerous.

Tom from the Seventh Son movie based on The Last Apprentice series.

The antagonist of The Last Apprentice: Attack of the Fiend is the witches of Pendle Hill and the Fiend itself. The witches are one of the antagonist's because they are attempting to create a portal to summon the Fiend into the physical world to kill Tom. The Fiend is the other antagonist because he is summoned to kill Tom as well as innocents while causeing world destrucion. Both of antagonist's are important to this story because they are both trying to stop Tom from becoming a Spook or growing into his full power to defeat and stop the evil from growing.

This is representing the witches of Pendle Hill

This is representing the Fiend

The mood of The Last Apprentice: Attack of the Fiend is a macabre or morbid type of setting. This mood is heard from the many fears that Tom expresses throughout this book about his family. These fears and worries are brought up throughout this book because of his family being kiddnapped by the antagonist's, the witches. With Tom's anxiety about this situation, he has thoughts of the worst: his families death, thus giving a macabre mood to this book

This represents the morbid mood this book gives readers

The external conflict of The Last Apprentice: Attack of the Fiend is mostly Tom vs the witches of Pendle hill. This is true to the book because the reason Tom and the Spook traveled to Pendle Hill was to save his family from the witches of Pendle Hill. While attempting to save his family, Tom is faced with many conflicts between many different witches which is why the external conflict is based upon Tom vs the witches of Pendle.

This represents the witches of Pendle Hill

The setting of The Last Apprentice: Attack of the Fiend, is Pendle Hill of the county. This main setting is important to the story because of the evil mood and tone of the story.

The internal conflict of The Last Apprentice: Attack of the Fiend is Tom vs his fears of the worst. This is true to the book because throughout this book, Tom expresses his fears of the worst and his feeling towards this main conflict: his family being kidnapped by the witches. While all of these issues are being worked out, Tom shows his fears towards the possible death of his family or even the possible outcome of the summoning of the Fiend. This is why the internal conflict of this book is Tom vs his fears of the worst.

This represents the anxiety Tom has towards the conflict of the story
