"A department store is a retail establishment offering a wide range of consumer goods in different product categories known as departments."
How do they work?
They gather products from various manufacturers, and sometimes different retailers and then sell them from one particular location, offering a huge amount of different products from many different companies.
What do they sell?
"Department stores usually sell products including gardening, toiletries, sporting products, DIY, paint and hardware" whilst others, depending on various elements like location, focus on other departments, like beauty products, books, clothing, jewelry, electronics etc.
Who do they sell to?
they sell to various groups of people as they supply a wide range of products however they have become more reliant on the older generations who may be used to shopping in stores that provide goods this way, whilst younger generations who are likely to be more technologically advanced are likely to use the ease of online shopping more.
How large are they?
Despite the fact that many department stores are losing popularity due to the growth of easy access to various brands online, the remaining discount stores are still huge, as they have to be big to even function as a department store as they must have a vast amount of brands in different departments.
Where do you find them?
department stores are always found in place surrounded by other shops, as their is a higher frequency of people there; this can be high streets of cities or shopping centers. They aren't located in smaller areas like towns or villages as their wouldn't be enough interest.
Ownership?
