Nurul Amirah Binti Jaafar
A174862
2 August 2022

Week 3 focuses on troubleshooting and adolescents. Troubleshooting should be applied if the techniques are not working. Jumpstart may initiate a particular behaviour in the child but if there is no improvement, parents may opt for consequence sharing or group programs. Basically, both are meant to reward other children in the circle too if one child behaves well.

In the discussion of adolescents, I have learned that parents should be more understanding as they might have emotional instability and peer pressure. The approach to change an adolescent's behaviour is pretty much the same as child.

Teenage issues portrayed in the news and social medias are terrifying. I believe it does not take a parent to set the right path for them. It takes a human being to be empathy and prevent the occurrences among our small circle. The responsibility as a parent is boundless and each child comes with no specific guidelines. However, I think they deserve to receive the appropriate nurturing regardless of their background.

I learned the skill of decision making by acknowledging the variety of choices given. In this context, it is the variety of techniques to mould the child's behaviour. I also studied the situation I was in to have a rough idea on which technique is the most suitable with the child at the moment.

I managed my time by setting a schedule from Coursera. Sometimes, procrastination gets the best of me so I will catch up the next time I was ready. Since this course requires a lot of listening and reading, my attention span got challenged. Hence, I started small by completing a portion of the subtopic bit by bit.

I plan to start writing an article as a mean to spread the awareness among our society. Hopefully, I can tailor the contents interestingly and manage to provide a learning material which is easy to be understood. I also hope this topic is worth an attention especially from Malaysian parents.

Muhammad Hafizuddin Ariff bin Hanipah
A173796
7 August 2022

I was introduced to the properties and applications of the derivative. Here, I was able to connect properties of curves with their derivatives and second derivatives. I was also able to use sign diagrams and apply the Product, Quotient and Chain rules for differentiation. Lastly, I learned how to solve maximisation and minimisation problems.

I was intrigued by the mathematical concepts that I learned from this course and how I can apply it in real life. I was a bit challenged because it was getting harder and harder, week by week but I still try to learn as much as possible.

No doubt the skill of decision making is vital in calculus. I need to think clearly on how to solve the problem given as one simple mistake would not get me the correct answers. So, I need to decide on the best course of action on how to solve the problems given.

I managed my time by making my own schedule. I will try to finish as much as possible in a day so that I can continue to focus on the remaining module. It requires a lot of reading and listening so I need to stick to my schedule to prevent me from not finishing it on time.

Next week is the final module for this course which is the introduction to integral calculus. I will continue to watch videos provided, do some readings and attempt exercises.

HUSNA BINTI HASRI
A171602
10th AUGUST 2022

In the 3rd week, I learn about how to deliver news to audience effectively and about publishing. News should be engaging and it should be something that people want to know about. If possible, encourage feedbacks and comments from audience so we can gauge what it is that the public wants. Other than that, an important thing I found out is that a news does not necessarily have to be written. It could be a video uploaded to websites such as Youtube, audio in the form of podcast and even listicles where the article comprises of lists like the popular website Buzzfeed.

I feel like I have so much more to learn about journalism. I barely scratched the surface of what it takes to be a journalist. I received introduction to types of news, news topic to cover and ways to deliver those news but it was not in depth. I think this is due to the nature of the course being online and certificate level. Nonetheless, I am grateful with what I have learned so far. If I had not chosen this course, I would never have known the first thing about journalism to be too invested in it in the first place. Furthermore, studying journalism has rekindled my childhood interest in writing that was dead due to me dedicating my life getting into - and currently surviving - medical school.

Decision making in this elective posting is mainly centered around what the topic of my news report is going to be as wall as the medium and publishing methods. I was recommended by my assessor to report about elective posting or related to it. From there I found my starting point. I decided to read my friends Padlet report and try to see what is the most popular subject in the elective posting. Then, I would contact a few of them to ask for permission to quote from their Padlet or interview them if necessary. Next, to decide what medium my news report should be - video, audio or text. I have decided to write a written report due to unavailability of my classmates. We are scattered across the country, some are even overseas and all of them are still finishing up their elective posting. Other than time, written reports are more feasible to produce in one week than a video or a podcast especially for a beginner like me. Finally, as for the matter of publishing, I decided to try sending my article to a news publishing company instead of self publishing. I could always try to self publish any other day but during elective posting is where I should try to get out of my comfort zone and do something I would not normally do. It would not be easy, but as the saying goes: nothing ventured, nothing gained.

I made sure to set aside around 2-3 hours per day to do my Coursera work that include watching lectures, writing practices and quizzes. Although my Coursera course has an estimation of 3 months completion, I decided to do it in 3 weeks to make room for creating and publishing news report on the 4th week. For the following week, I plan to dedicate around 5 hours a day until I have successfully submit my work to a local newspaper editor.

For week 4, I plan to do my research on the topic of my news article, collect information from peers, finding a newspaper to send my article to, writing the news article and sending the finished article to a news company.

After attending this course, I’ve come to realised at the arrangement of items in the supermarket are a trick for us to be more prone to buying more processed food rather than fresh foods.

This course certainly has grow my excitement and also improved my knowledge even on the simplest thing we had everyday which is nutrient from our food.

This course is an eye-opener for me to lead a healthy lifestyle not only from exercising out but also from my diet. A healthy balanced diet certainly helps me when I’m exercising. Instead of fasting to lose weight, I’ve come to realise that having a balanced diet does help me to gain muscle instead of losing them from fasting.

I’ve made sure that I spend a day weekly on working out my EP and avoid procrastination by setting a deadline for myself.

My plan for next week is to learn about sustainable eating which has been a hot topic these days.

Shameena Gill

A178344

10/08/22

In the third week, I learned about deep neural networks and its applications. I also learned how to make these algorithms more accurate as well as understand the applications of them. Ethical concerns about machine learning were also covered in this week’s sessions

A few points to remember from this week would be as below.

Deep neural networks have several concepts that are important. There are various ways of calculating the loss in these models. One such way is cross-entropy loss. To minimise the loss, we need to be able to adjust the weights and biases to minimise these losses. One such way is the gradient descent algorithm.

There are different types of neural networks and likewise different applications. Convolutional neural networks are an ideal way to handle pixelated grids or images. It is popular in specialties such as radiology, pathology, and dermatology. Natural language processing helps to process data and speech but in a contextual way which makes it one of the trickier machine learning algorithms.

I am beginning to feel a lot more confident when approaching newer content as I can understand the terminology better now. I can also appreciate the benefits of machine learning in a hospital setting and how it may improve the stakeholders involved. I’m excited as well because I can see progress in my learning.

For this week, I decided to challenge myself by working on a simple machine learning algorithm to predict if a person has a high possibility to have heart disease based on a few characteristics. I had to make critical decisions such as what statistical analysis to use and how to classify the data in such a way that increases the accuracy of the algorithm. It still remains difficult for me to decide which path to run. However, if it results in a mistake, I just go back to the root of it and try to figure out the mistake as I am still in the learning process.

This week was more hectic than the last because I had to cram 2 and a half weeks worth of content in one week. However, since I have the whole day free, the use of a timetable proved useful and I managed to exceed my expectations.

My plan for next week is to continue on my algorithm project as well as finish off the rest of the course while preparing my end report.

Then I was introduced to the basics of cooking such as essential ingredients for the home cook to make the most. I genuinely felt this week's course is like bridging lessons to the fourth week which mainly focuses on cooking.

Previously, whenever I was going to cook, I tend to buy the ingredients from the scratch without looking into the nutritional info. But, I've learnt how to look for substitutional ingredients which are more health-friendly.

I set my weekly To-Do list and made sure EP was at the top.

My plan for next week is to cook healthy foods and hopefully I can practise it lifelong.

Alia Maisara Adenan
A176990

Week 3 focuses on learning about design sprints which a process tied to five full, eight-hour days with five phases to design products.

1. The five phases of design sprints are identical to the UX design framework: understand, ideate, decide, prototype and test. As the design sprint lasts for 5 days, each phase is completed within a day.

2. What makes a design sprint more beneficial than other approaches of solving a design challenge is that all sprint participants are valued regardless of which discipline they are from. Design sprints allow participants to give full attention to the challenge that is tasked to be completed within the five days. Design sprints are also versatile because they can be scheduled at any point during a project timeline hence a sprint serves as an option when a problem arises in the middle of the project.

3. A design sprint must be planned beforehand as it requires proper organisation as it is expected for the problem to be settled in the next 5 days. Besides arranging a proper schedule layout with the focus on the problem that needs to be solved such as scheduling talks with industrial experts. finding the right space for the sprint to take place is important. Finding an appropriate space is a must to ensure every employee gets equal opportunities to perform their jobs as sprint participants are to be staying in that workspace for a lot of time, until the 5 days are done. Comfortable furniture, essentials such as markers, sticky notes and water are all important that should be supplied during the sprint.

4. Design sprints also requires rules to be established. A ground rule as simple as no gadgets allowed to create a distraction-free zone can be implied during the design sprint if it is believed to help get everyone on the same page. Icebreakers may also be necessary as the first step in planning introductions because design sprints involve cross-functional teams that may have never met before.

5. As design sprints must be on schedule so that everything gets done by the 5th day, a sprint brief would be the documentation to be shared with all sprint participants to help them prepare for the sprint. Contents of the sprint brief are location and time, sprint objectives, key deliverables, project overview to explain current status and other information relevant to the design sprint planned.

6. To conclude the overall design sprint, a sprint retrospective meeting is done which is similar to a post-mortem meeting at the end of every project. The goal of the retrospective is to get feedback from everyone who took part in the sprint with the two key questions of "What went well?" and "What can be improved?".

I personally enjoyed learning the contents third week into the course because of how applicable the methods are to many things we do and it's interesting that this design sprint is an actual expectancy in the job. It's a great reminder that teamwork is necessary to create the best solution.

Next, I had started and was now still progressing with the coding of the webpage to develop it into a fully functioning webpage. By the end of the third week, unfortunately, the development project was not completed, but it was 80% done. However, I believed that by next week, the webpage can be done, along with the fulfillment of the next week objectives

I felt quite excited and satisfied with the website project which I had started of and continued to put effort into it. I do not feel like it is a burden to me, in fact, I am very appreciative to have the opportunity to learn and practice the basics on how to develop a web page. For me, this makes me more equipped with more skills to be more competitive in the future.

Skill of decision making was very important in my elective posting journey. From small ones to big ones, decisions made during my elective posting did affect a lot to my final project. For example, initially, I decided to choose the web page development project as my elective posting project as I felt that this skill might be useful for me in the 21st century, which is full of technologies in daily life. Next, after getting advice from Doctor, I decided to change my webpage project from coding a restaurant page to a medical related page, which will be more related to me, as a healthcare professional.

Time management is also very important in order to complete my project in a month. For me, a schedule was planned before I started my elective posting. I had clearly stated the duration of studying each day and days to study in each week. Through this method, I was able to complete my task in the given duration according to the objectives.

My plan for next week will be learning fundamentals of the Javascript language, from common language constructs and Javascript types to objects, functions, arrays, closures, and scope isolation.
