The students have a respect for each other for the most part. 
They have an appreciation for teachers and school.  The students really care about their grades and they do care about doing well. They are a very intelligent group.  They know KIPP very well. They love competition and they do like to be challenged, when there are engaging activities and conversations they are ALL in. They like to have a personal connections and they strive in a strong SEL environment.  They love to reflect on life, culture, academics, and emotions. They lack school pride. They lack urgency. Sometimes they lack understanding of where to draw the line with social boundaries. They can be confrontational, it is very much, "it's not what you say but how you say it."  While very intelligent they need to be pushed  to the bar that they have set for themselves and the one that the school has for them. While there are many leaders, there are some "clique" behaviors. Sometimes emotions can get out of hand and they need to monitored. They could benefit from culture etiquette and empathy. Understanding that the world is a wide range of different people and all should be respected.  They can test the limit when it comes to discipline. They LOVE to talk which is what you would like for discussions but it has to be drawn in. Need more thorough explanation of system, google classroom, rules, norms, ect.
Social Media is a source of drama within the group.

Moreno-  Her first name is Guille but do not call her that. When she is in a mood, remove her from the space, she needs movement. Singh is a good reference. Check in with her if she seems down, pull her to the side if you see that she is not having a good day. 

M. Molina-Goes through moods, her sweatshirt is her comfort, she is not the highest academically, benefits from positive reinforcement and praise. Can be temermental. 

S. Raza- Low academic drive, EL language barrier. easily distracted. 6th Grade was first year at KIPP. 

R. Dominguez- EL language barrier, has a high academic drive even though he does not always do well. 6th grade was first at KIPP. 

I. Tchizige- Low academic drive, sometimes lacks motivation and self control. Thrives off strong relationships, he likes to be the class clown, challenges authority, he does feel good when he receives praise and is successful in a task. 

M. Caballero- Does her work and is very intelligent, sometimes need to be redirected when it comes to actions and choice of friends. 

A. Al Rubaye- Has a very strong personality, can come off confrontational, sometimes needs redirection and intervention when it comes to cultural topics. He can work and is very intelligent, just needs redirection and positive reinforcement. 

C. Quintanilla- Has a low academic drive and motivation. He is easily distracted, strives well if he is to himself, with no distractions. 

I. Hernandez- lacks academic drive, outside forces affects her ability. Needs a lot of motivation and a strong relationship with a teacher. Home life is rough. Approach is everything for her, and she shuts down quickly. 

J. Medina- Lacks academic motivation and sometimes needs redirected with his thoughts, he is an older student and will sometimes be off to himself, he loves reading Manga. 

M. Martinez- Lacks academic drive, has a support system, but still needs a secure attachment, easily distracted and will try to get out of doing work as much as possible. Challenges authority. Self Image is a thing for her. Avoid putting her in the hallway, keep in constant communication with mom. 

V. Reyes- One of our newest KIPPsters, she has had a time adjusting to the culture. She wants to do well but sometimes outside factors and student influence plays a role in her decision making.  Lives  with grandma, Mom is a touchy topic due to terminal illness.  Dad is involved with discipline. 

A. Guerrero- Needs a secure attachment in order to succeed, she works hard but need extra support.  

K. Alvarado- Very intelligent but lacks motivation and is easily distracted, loves to talk,  needs to wear her glasses.  

T. Abbasi- Lacks motivation, needs to be motivated, very intelligent. 

J. Perez- Wants to do well, needs a secure attachment, easily redirected, loves engaging topics and discussions. 

I. Rivera- Very intelligent, loves discussions, needs to be reeled in as times, can be over the top, loves to make people laugh, needs to be in space where there are limited distractions. 

C. Vasquez- Lacks motivation when it comes to academics, sometimes needs to be monitored when it comes to the interactions with students. 

U. Naqvi- She wants to do well, needs a secure attachment and to be held accountable for her actions. Needs a push because she is easily distracted by in class and out of classroom factors. Can be part of social disruptions.

D. Luna- Needs a secure attachment, can challenge authority, has a rough home life, often late to school. Wants to do well. Do not engage in his slick comments. 

J. Gomez- Dad passed in November 2019, topic is fresh be mindful of conversations about dad. 

E. Reyes- Dad passed her 6th year during the winter. Has varying emotions about it, be mindful of comments. 

C. Martinez- Lacks motivations, Mom is very involved, he internalized his emotions, does not express and needs major motivations. 


L. Navarette- Has a history of racial comments. 

O. Torres- Needs motivation and organization, contact with Mom is needed. 

M. Montes de Oca- Be careful with interactions meet her where she is. 

K. Tofik- Ball of energy, loves Mom, needs to be motivated, 

J. Cruz- Needs motivation and support  

A. Castelan- Part of an extremely large family, mom and aunt are sisters and are the sole providers.

D. Villeda-  Mom is the best contact for him, she will respond make sure you keep her up to date.
