For this assessment, you should draw on the analytical and technical skills developed in the first part of the course. Working with footage you have conceptualised, planned & shot as a group, you will independently integrate technical skills including rotoscoping, keying, tracking and match moving to creatively explore the theme of 'the writing on the wall'. 

In developing your 5 second moving image sequence, you should also consider the visual and formal conventions of VFX practice discussed during the course and integrate this knowledge into the composition of your work. You are also encouraged to creatively interpret the assessment theme in relation to the key ideas introduced so far in the course, and to use this as an opportunity to develop your own artistic vision to actively explore concepts and the construction of meaning through VFX practice.

Scene starts with two people standing far away from each other in an alleyway, with smoke and dust seen and gunshots in the background. The scene occurs during an active conflict. Person A is holding a weapon of some sort, and Person B is holding a grenade.

 

Person A, who is far away from Person B, and yells ‘Don’t pull the pin!’ at Person B.

 

The shot changes to a close-up of Person B, who responds ‘Oh, you want me to pull it?’, and pulls the pin on the grenade.

 

The shot then cuts to a further away angle of the alleyway, and the grenade explosion happens, ending the scene.

The opening shot of the alleyway can have smoke and dust effects, as well as colour grading and audio of gunshots and yelling. The shots of the two people talking will likely have no additional effects done to them.

 

The shot of the explosion occurring will have the explosion effect, as well as dust and rubble falling.

 

The scenes will all be shot at a single location with several camera angles, with the additional effects enhancing the scene.
