A theme that is developed in "from the Unknown Americans" is that even when you have nothing, you can still create something important through hard work.

According to Enriques she states,"We had my aunt on speakerphone and my mom had said,' Take it from me hermanita, they danced at the wedding and they never do it again" This evidence shows how they were happy to dance through the speakerphone even though it wasn't in person. Another piece of evidence from the text is,"With the water and the sand, my mom said it was almost like a little piece of Panama." and "And I think we all sensed, standing there, just how far we were from where we had come, in ways both good and bad." This piece of evidence shows how even if they weren't in Panama, they made something out of it imagining Panama.

A theme that is developed in from"Unknown Americans is that sometimes in life you have to make the best of what you have According to Henriquez she states "my mom in particular got homesick sometimes like it was a genuine illness—but that Christmas was the worst. We were depressed and on edge, still shaken up about September 11, and then re-shaken when someone tried to blow up another plane by hiding a bomb in his shoes two days before Christmas Eve." This evidence shows that The family was going through a lot and didn't have much to do and the only thing they wanted to do was ruined by a tragic event. In addition, According to Henriquez she states"my dad came up with an idea. “my dad came up with an idea. “You want Panamá?” he said." I had to hand it to my dad, though. With the water and the sand, my mom said it almost was like a little piece of Panamá. The waves roared in toward us and then silently pulled back again, slipping over the shore. Even with the falling snow, the air had the sting of salt water, and we crunched broken seashells under our shoes. But one beach isn’t every beach. " This evidence shows that the dad was able to make the best of the situation because he new that his family was going through a lot. In conclusion A theme that is developed in from"Unknown Americans is that sometimes in life you have to make the best of what you have.

A theme that is developed from ¨The Book of Unknown Americans¨ is you may leave your home but your home never leaves you. According to Rafael he said, “You were born in Panamá. It’s in your bones.” This quote shows his dad assuring him that no matter what he is Panamanian. In the text it also states “´Take it from me, hermanita, they dance at the wedding and then they never do it again.´My dad had said, ´That’s what you think?´ and clutched my mom by the wrist, sending her into a small spin in the middle of the kitchen. She squealed with delight while he swayed with her for a few beats and then he broke out into some goofy merengue moves, kicking his leg up at the end and shouting “¡Olé!” My aunt started yelling through the phone, “Are you still there? Celia! Rafael!” And my parents laughed until my mom dabbed the corners of her eyes with the back of her hand.¨ This quote shows the parent dancing like they would t aunt glorias wedding because they missed it. In conclusion a theme that is developed in ¨The Book of Unknown Americans¨ is you may leave your home but your home never leaves you.

A theme that is developed from The book of unknown Americans is that sometimes in the life we all face challenges " The country was ravaged that their hearts never stopped breaking" "Eventually they sold everything and got tickets to some else, somewhere better which is always meant to be United States" This evidence shows that Mayor's family were facing so many problems. " He knew, We all knew that he was on the low end of the food chain. He would be replaced in a heart beat. He didn't want to risk it"because of that we missed gloria's wedding" This evidence shows that Raphael didn't want to go back to Panama because he had a job and he could be replaced and he can lose his job.

A theme that is developed in "From The Book Of Unknown Americans" is that things you want to happen in life will not always happen. According to Henriquez she states, "there could be nothing worse. No, my aunt assured her, just problems. then less two weeks before we were scheduled to go, two planes flew into the world trade center in New York City". This evidence shows that they wanted to go to the mom's birthday but they couldn't because of the 9/11 attack. In addition, According to Henriquez she states, "We moved here because it was suppose to be safer! where can we go after this". This evidence shows that they thought they would feel safer in New York City but they din't think something like that would happen. Therefore, a theme that is developed in "From The Book Of Unknown Americans" is that things you want to happen in life will not always happen.

A theme that is developed in from “The book of Unknown Americans" is that sometimes in life you have to chose between two identities. According to Mayor he states, " I spent a lot of time trying to find it in me, but usually I couldn't. I felt more American than anything." This evidence shows that Mayor was trying to feel a connection with his ethnicity but couldn't since he came to the U.S at a young age and doesnt have any memories in Panama. In addition, According to Mayor he states, "The truth was that i didn't know which I was. I wasnt allowed to claim the thing I felt and I didnt feel the thing I was suppose to claim". This evidence shows that Mayor was confused about his identity because he felt as a americans but the kids at school told him that he wasnt a american and should go back to his country but he doesnt feel a connection with his country. Therefore, a theme that is developed in from “The book of Unknown Americans" is that sometimes in life you need to chose between two identities.

According to Cristina Henríquez she states, "My dad got a job as a busboy and then, later on, as a dishwasher.” This evidence shows that despite their willingness to work, the Toros face barriers such as language difficulties and limited job opportunities.

A theme that is developed From "The Unknown Americans" is, you may need family and/or people you love to surround you. Mayor states in paragraph 4, "Years passed. Enrique was in school, and i started too. My dad was promoted to line cook. More years slid by. And before they knew it, we had a life here." The Toro family put in their parts for being one step closer to having a good life. In paragraph 27 Mayor and Celia say, "But one beach isn't every beach. And one home isn't every home. And i think we all sensed, standing there, just how far we were from where we had come, in ways both good and bad, "It's beautiful" Celia said staring out at the ocean. She sighed and shook her head "This country." She begins to reminisce about Panama after visiting the beach.
