Little: Continuously talks about how small the child is which introduces the fact that even though small in stature they are able to cause a huge negative affect on the parents

Forever: Brings up the youth they once had before the child and how they once felt invincible and at the top of the world "We 25 and 22" shows how young they are and then goes on to say "Notice suffering life in you"

Our/Together: Shows that they are both struggling to raise the child and goes back to how the child is small but is still winning a "battle" between two grown adults

Die/Decompose: In a way the poem discusses how the child had "killed" them as it goes back to the title "My Son, My Executioner" to me it portrays how the baby killed the young self of the parents and how they were reborn into a true adult thats faced with responsibility now.

Warms: "Whom my body warms"
The poem uses the temperature to show the comfort of a parents body. It shows how it is a home for the child and when you think of a home you often have thoughts of a warm and welcoming setting.

Sweet Death: "Sweet death, small son"
This line is used at the beginning of the poem and teases the darkness thats about to become, which is the death of their youth and the start of the next step of their life.

Our Instrument: "Our instrument of immortality"
Shows that the child is a tool for eternal life but it really shows that they will pass on their knowledge and their family tree will continue.

Forever: "Seemed to live forever"
Talks about how the parents were once at the peak of their life being so young and had plenty of freedom. Meaning that they had little responsibility and any consequences they would have would be minor

Die Together: "Start to die together"
It portrays the child as a murderer of their young selves and how they are reborn into a new human being with responsibilities of life

The speaker of the poem gives off a drained tone as if they've been through a huge struggle. Reading it the first time i had assumed it was a female narrator but after continuously going over it I had gotten the sense it was from a father figure perspective. Eventually i had came to a conclusion that it was from the perspective of just a "parent" with no gender associated showing how the child puts a damper on the emotions no matter the sex of the parent.

The poem describes how something so delicate and so innocent can take up so much hours of the day and take a huge toll on parents when it comes to feeding, nursing, and caring for them. It mentions how young the parents are and how in a matter of days they felt as if they are “decomposing." It says how the child is an "Executioner" when in reality its just a child the poem discusses how the child had "killed" them as it goes back to the title "My Son, My Executioner" to me it portrays how the baby killed the young self of the parents and how they were reborn into a true adult thats faced with responsibility now.
