         <description><![CDATA[<div>- "blanket waiver" during covid to not have to issue stand. tests - teachers were relieved <br>- 20-21 has to give stand. tests bc schools opened back uop<br>- “While much has been said about the racial achievement gap as a civil rights issue, more attention needs to be paid to the measurement tools used to define that gap,” <a href="https://www.nextgenlearning.org/articles/racial-bias-standardized-testing">explains Young Wan Choi, </a>manager of performance assessments for the Oakland Unified school District in Oakland, CA.&nbsp;<br>- explains how stand. tests&nbsp; have been used for the past century in order to segregate and discriminate - very interesting, i never knew anything about this or even that stand. tests have been around that long (Found out they were around a lot longer than the past century, but for the purpose of this article)<br>- not conditioned for disabilities or difference in language&nbsp;<br>- "on average, students of color score lower on college admissions tests, thus many capable youth are denied entrance or access to so-called “merit” scholarships, contributing to the huge racial gap in college enrollments and completion."<br><br><br></div><div><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>- some colleges getting rid of SAT and ACT as admission requirements<br>-advances in technology = machines can be coded to not base scoring off of race, ethnicity, gender, physical appearance, spoken accent<br>- test questions/ format= multicultural teaching- "The aim should be scaled up test item banks and differentiated, equitable rating protocols to evaluate performance, both of which appropriately reflect the student’s cultural and linguistic background"<br>- using technology is more accessible to teachers and students and bring costs down- Ex: smarter balanced assessment/ test on school's site - bridges gap<br><br></div>]]></description>
