As a reader, while I do enjoy a good plot and storyline, I find it to be difficult to keep myself engaged if the characters are dull or one dimensional. Some books (or any form of media) can have a great concept, but as far as characters go they feel lifeless or boring. To me, if I don't care about what happens to the characters, then there's no point in continuing the story. That doesn't mean that characters have to be likeable, they just have to be written well. After all, there are characters you love to hate. I guess what I'm trying to say is that as a reader, following the characters and investing in their fate is more important than simply reading for the plot. A book can have an average story but it's the characters that bring it to life.

As for me, the first thing I will look for in a book is the synopsis. I like to know what the book is all about before reading it. It is because it can give me the first overview on what the book is about. If I found that the book has a good overview then only I will proceed to read it. I like books that have a plot twist in the climax and the resolution so that it make me wonder what the ending will be.

As a reader, I would like to have some romance aspects in the book. I love to imagine myself as one of the main characters in the story where I can fall in love with prince charming and dance all night in a ballroom. Other than that, I would like to have some dynamic characters inside the story as well. I would like to see the dramatic change of the characters. It shows the liveliness and the complexity in the characters that will make the plot more enjoyable.
Next, I would like to have a happily ever after ending inside the book where all the characters can live with their loved ones. No more despair, sadness, rage, vengeful and regret at the end of the story. All their problems will be solved where no one else will need redemption.
Lastly, I would like to read the description of a handsome character inside the book. I enjoy reading writers' descriptions of their characters to imagine them inside my brain. It is a pure pleasure when all these elements that I like are combined inside a book.

I will read the synopsis or the prologue of the book to increase my interest. Then, I will continue reading the book and try to figure out the characters, settings and the plot of the story. A character with strong characteristics will help to make the story become interesting. A clear dialogue and sentences helps me to understand more about the content of the book. Besides that, I will figure out the moral of the story in a book and how I can relate it with the real life situation.

As I reader I find it quite easy to get lost in a book's setting. Let's just say its kind of like a form of a safe place for myself. I dont think I'm very particular regarding style of writing but I do hold importance for the genre and plot. Fantasy has always been my personal favorite because aside from the story itself, I like the fact that someone managed to create a whole power system that is not present within reality and yet they are very capable of managing every single detail to fit into the fantasy world mechanism they created. Lastly, what I think is endearing for me in terms of reading is the fact that I like to think that the writers are sharing a vulnerable part of their heart,a piece of their soul if i may, with their readers.

As a reader, I always pay more attention to the plot of the story, whether it is slow-paced or fast-paced. I easily got distracted when the book does not have a good storyline. If the book has a slow-paced storyline or uninteresting plot, I tend to skip through pages because I just wanted to finish them fast. So, for me, it is important to have a good plot story in order for the readers to keep reading and follow the pace of the story.

I see books as a comforting ‘place’ where the characters are able to articulate the emotions that I fail to express or understand. Hence why the first thing I look for in a book are relatable and imperfect characters with realistic conflicts and internal battles. I tend to look for books with realistic conflicts and endings that can give their readers closure regarding their own life and maybe understand the people around them better. Mainly because I believe that the journey these dynamic characters go through can help me grow more as a person, and help me navigate through life.

I love the feeling of curiosity and excitement to know what will happen next in the story. Besides, I prefer sad storyline compared to the happy one. I enjoy reading while crying hahaha it is kind of a therapy for me. I love imagining myself in that mournful situation. Next, how the author tried to describe something or any situation in his or her book is also what I always look for. I mean the uses of imagery. I like when the abstract things become more tangible when I am reading a book as it helps me to understand the message better.

As a reader, the first thing I would like to look at is the book's synopsis. I love how some writers put good words as a synopsis to attract the buyers to buy their works because I tend to keep in mind before buying books that the overview of the book and the cover itself is the first impression. Although the synopsis comes first, if the story's plot doesn't excite me to keep reading it, I will stop reading it. When I read a book, I can imagine the character and how they behave in the books, so how the characters play their roles is important for me. I love how the writers end their book with a cliffhanger so that I can let my imagination runs wild about how things will go on, and I think it gives me such a curious feeling for their next book.

As a reader, the first thing I would look for in a book is the title and the cover of the book. By reading the title and looking at its cover, it can actually help me to create a few questions and assumptions regarding the book. For example, “Is the book written based on the writer’s experience? What meaning does the novel's title have? Is there a connection to any of the themes?”. The second thing I would do after that, is reading the synopsis. The synopsis is the most important element of the book because in my opinion, a good synopsis will help to convince the readers to read the entire book. When reading the synopsis, it will not only help to convince me but it also helps to give a few ideas what the book is mainly written about. Last but not least, a good book can be finished in one sitting if the plot and storyline is intriguing.

As a reader, I would honestly view the book cover first. But that applies for those 21st century romance novels, like works of Sophie Kinsella, Lindsey Kelk or Tess Daly (they literally got me into the reading world).
But talking about literature books, I would go for the theme. I adore books that shows women traits (to be fair, I haven't read much works but it gives me a sense of motivation).
If we're going on a more casual aspect of reading, such as fictions from Wattpad which are written by flourishing new writers who may or may not even have any education on literature, I would honestly go for a action-pack type of work. I have found tons of amazing pieces of writings where they could really bring the readers into that scene - the detail of environment, action, what clothes and what car driven. I admire their ability to describe and narrate. That's what I want to create one day - soulful works that engage readers to go on and on.

A person's own life experience is very limited. As a reader, I think books can make readers' inner world very broad and calm. I prefer story-telling and artistic books especially novels. From books I hope to open up a world that I have never seen before through plot, characters and culture.
The world would be a place where I could conmmunicate with myself. It will give strength and direction to my life and thoughts. As a reader, this is what I want to achieve ultimately by reading.

As a reader, one thing that I look for in a book is a strong plot. For me, it is that simple, because the main purpose of reading a book is to get carried away with the intriguing plot of the story. It gives a quick escape from the real world, which I crave. A fun fact about me is that I enjoy reading thriller stories. The characters or the setting do not matter to me, because by the second chapter of the book if the plot does not attract me, I would immediately stop reading the book.

Reading for me is a window to imagination and experience. I am curious about different eyes, especially the perspective of the unrepeatable part of the minority. They bring infinite possibilities to my limited life. In fact more than plot and characters, I am concerned with what kind of world these constitute and what I feel in the process of reading. Many thoughts and emotions come and go naturally; they ebb and flow like a tide.

As a reader, I always read the synopsis first to get to know the gist of the book. Some say 'don’t judge a book by its cover' but for me if the book has a great cover and interesting title also the plot, I will buy the book. The size of the font is also important as I always get distracted if the size of the font is too small. I will surely skip the pages if the book is too thick and with small font. Other than that, the plot is also important for me to engage with the story. I also look for the unexpected twist of event or the characters that the writer wants to convey in the story. Lastly, I can finish the book in just a few days if the book is interesting enough for me.

The most important thing for me when I’m looking for a book is the plot. I love the unexpected and thrilling storyline, which I can’t predict what will happen next. A good storyline can keep me reading no matter how many pages the book has.

As a reader, I allow the author to take me into an imaginative world where I can experience fascinating and mind-blowing things that I would not be able to come across in real life. Through reading fiction, I can solve mysteries alongside Sherlock, I can be a close spectacle of the Hogwarts Quidditch competition, or I can indulge in the romance story between the vampire and a human girl.
