The reason we can infer that the echoing green is a field  is because the children are playing sports, and we know you can not play sports on mountains because , that is very dangerous especially for children.. We can also infer that they are not in a ocean because the are not swimming in the ocean. In conclusion we infer the echoing green in a nice, old green field that is very popular for children the play sports.
