The Virginia plan was that large states would have more power when making laws. The New Jersey plan was that small states would have equal power in representation at congress. The compromise that solved this dispute between states was called the Great Compromise. The states were arguing over slaves should count in the population or not. The south's plan was the slaves should be counted as population and and not for taxes. This was good for the southern states because they would be powerful in congress and pay less taxes, but the north opposed this plan. The North argued that slaves should count for taxes and not population. They argued they don't count in the population because slaves were property. So the delegates of the Constitutional Convention came together and made a compromise called, The 3/5 Compromise.
