Problem-based learning (PBL) is a student-centered pedagogy in which students learn about a subject through the experience of solving an open-ended problem found in trigger material.

For this strategy, students are to answer the questions: How much should I eat, what foods are good for me, and how much of each food group should I eat?

Students will be asked to find out on their own the correct calorie intake for their body type, weight and size. They are then asked to create meal plans with the correct food groups and right portion of each for a week.
They can use accredited internet sites in order to obtain this information. This will be a computer lab activity.

Project Based Learning is a teaching method in which students gain knowledge and skills by working for an extended period of time to investigate and respond to an authentic, engaging and complex question, problem, or challenge.
For project based learning students will be doing interviews with those around them that have struggled with substance abuse. They are to interview them with compiled questions that they have created that address the risk factors of substance abuse, as well as personal, family and community influences that is has, and law consequences. Students will then type out their interviews and identify these topics and present their finding to the class.

Learning takes place as student take turns summarizing, questioning, clarifying, and predicting. This strategy is most frequently associated with reading, but can be used for any learning event in which information is presented

For this learning process students will watch the movie "Sex has a price tag" they will be given guided notes and questions to answer as they watch the movie. We will then come together as a class and discuss, summarize, and answer any questions that they have.

Cooperative learning is a successful teaching strategy in which small teams, each with students of different levels of ability, use a variety of learning activities to improve their understanding of a subject.

Students will grouped together in cohorts of 3-4 and asked to place different types of foods in what they think they would fall under in regards to the 6 essential nutrients. After they decided on their initial placement we will discuss it as a class and at that point they are able to move and manipulate any of the foods they would like. By the end of the class each student and group should have a clear understanding of what the six essential nutrients are and what foods fall under each category.

Learning takes place as students become experts in one topic and then teach other students about it. In this model, students take responsibility for learning and teaching the content. The video below is a nice illustration of how this works.
Students will be split into 5 groups, and each group will be given a worksheet that explain on of the 5 elements of fitness (flexibility, muscular strength, muscular endurance, cardiovascular endurance, body composition). After learning and becoming an expert in their subject groups will be distributed so that every group has a representative of every subject to teach their peers on what they have learned.
