         <description><![CDATA[<div>We don't organise TNA 'tightly' around the RDF because it's an extension of the Joint Skills Statement which researchers and supervisors generally refused to do for several reasons.<br><br>But we now expect research students to do a PDP and research staff also.<br><br>Students now discuss their PDPs in review meetings.<br>Staff discuss their PDPs in their annual appraisal.<br>They are both strongly encouraged, but not strictly compulsory.<br><br>Neither is linked to performance management, but they are used to identity as well as consider developing support the university can offer. Also, they are used to consider how funding can support training/development outside of the university.<br><br>Also, the idea of assessing learning gain as you have sounds wonderful as a research project; and I'm sure your findings will offer a useful insight for others who wish to follow your approach - especially if they wish to strategically embed it in processes for staff as well as students. All very interesting.</div>]]></description>
