This link talks about the oil crisis the USA had in the 1970's. It shows how they used up all there own oil, meaning they had to outsource oil, which made the cost of oil go up a lot, which increased the price on gasoline, plastics, home heating, etc. It explains how oil is key in life
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FiLnj5WD0ao

This link explains how the consumption of oil was higher then what they were producing/receiving. It explains how the stock market started to fall, they expected a recession as big since the great depression. People were putting on sweaters rather then turning up the heat in their house, people were buying smaller cars for better fuel economy. Everyone was trying to live more efficiently.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ClaNhx71XB8

This video states how all Americans will have to make sacrifices, it explained how approximately 20% of gas stations were closed because they were out of gas. Some of the other gas stations were only allowed to sell to commercial vehicles. It shows how food prices increased, because it cost more to transport, export and import it all. All of these increases and the averages person life had the same income rate. Hence why sacrifices had to be made. TImes were known as "Struggling 70's"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FiLnj5WD0ao

It explains how President Nixon went against the "1944 Bretton Woods Agreement" when he removed the USA from the gold standard.
This link blames the Oil Embargo for causing the recession in 1973-1975.
https://www.thebalance.com/opec-oil-embargo-causes-and-effects-of-the-crisis-3305806

This video shows President Nixon speaking on the topic of the oil crisis. He is explaining what he is going to do about it, for example, he talks about reducing speed limits, using less unnecessary lighting, reductions in home heating. Also talks about no Sunday driving if you don't have too. This is a team effort as everyone needs to cooperate to save the most amount of energy as the nation can.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0bUA-uFNAYc

This link shows how the gas stations operated in the recession. Some had signs outside saying "Regular customers only" or "No limit on fuel". By January 1974, gas prices were 4 times the amount then they've ever been. If you compare oil prices then to now, you see now they are more expensive, but income rates have been raised, cars get better fuel economy, and also Canada and Mexico are the main importers of oil to the USA now.
https://www.businessinsider.com/1973-oil-crisis-photos-2013-10

The link explains how the oil crisis in 1973, changed the automotive industry a lot. Before 1073, only 13% of cars were imported into the USA. Mainly because, most cars imported were small, great fuel efficiency, and cheap to fix and maintain and even purchase. The American V8 muscle cars weren't the best in the fuel economy department. As this energy crisis hit, horsepower and performance in vehicles were not anyone's priorities anymore.
http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2790/4366539149_5d66e309ee.jpg

This link talks about why the USA ever even had an oil crisis. Long story short, is that Kippur War in 1973 in the middle east. Caused a disruption in the middle east of course. Which is were the USA imported their oil from. The USA had used most of their own oil, they had a bunch of military emergency back up wells in California, they went there immediately and used it until it ran dry as well.
https://energyeducation.ca/encyclopedia/Oil_crisis_of_the_1970s
