Imagine waking up in a place you don’t know of, with people you don’t remember seeing, in a place you don’t call to mind. Thomas, a sixteen year old with no background memory is in this situation. When he arrives at a place that seemed like a farm, he meets new people, that seem really strange and unfriendly to him, except for one, Chuck. He was the only one that always seemed to talk to Thomas no matter what. When Thomas realizes that he wants to be a runner, a sudden flip of events happen. A girl appears in the box, something that has never happened because a girl has never appeared there, and because the girl appeared the same week as Thomas, strange because new people only appear once a month. When the girl gets there Ben wakes up from the changing and attacks Thomas because he was stung by a griever. This action leads to Ben being thrown to the cliff. One night, Newt and Thomas were waiting on Alby and Minho to return from the maze, if they do not return soon they will be trapped inside the maze and eventually be attacked by the grievers. Suddenly Thomas sees a glimpse of his friends and runs towards them, only to be trapped inside the maze. When Minho and Thomas get rid of the grievers by making them fall in the hole they notice that at one point they disappear. This discovery leads to a whole new perspective of the maze and how to get out of it.

The overall book was always really climactic because just when you thought the problem was solved a whole new series of problems are presented. This has a lot to do with the style the author writes in because before the ending of a chapter he leaves you in a cliffhanger. The author did not include much figurative language because this was not the kind of book to include figurative.

The overall mood is really suspenseful and somewhat gloomy. This ties back to how the book is established because once again the author wants to keep us entertained and he wants us to keep on reading to see how the conflict will be solved.

The theme of the story would be stand up to what you believe because throughout the story the gladers had to sacrifice a lot of things and people they loved just to solve a solution to get out of the glade.

If I had to rate this book i would give it four stars. At the begging it was really difficult to follow what was going on because of the words that were in place, for example, glade, greavers, changing, etc. Once you understood these words it was really easy to know what the were referring to. The suspense of the book also had a big contribution into the rating of the book because it was really thrilling.

Important Character

I think Alby is a very important character in this book because he was the leader of the gladers, he took all of the decisions about what to do in a live or die situation. Also, at the end of the book, he sacrificed himself just to try to solve the problem that caused one of his friends to die every day.

An event that really marked the overall book was when Chuck died. This was really touching because in the middle of the book Thomas promised him that he would reunite him with his mom. When Chuck jumped to save Thomas he sacrificed the only chance he had to do so. This reflects on the kind of character Chuck was and how much he loved his friends.
