En la cavidad oral afectará frecuentemente la lengua, mucosa bucal y labios. La mayoría de las lesiones se detecta por primera vez en adultos y no hay predilección por ningún sexo. La enfermedad se presenta como nódulos subcutáneos bien delimitados. En la neurofibromatosis múltiple pueden encontrarse tanto en la piel como en las superficies de la mucosa. Las lesiones modulares tienen un tamaño que entre unos pocos milímetros y varios centímetros con forma esférica y producen una elevación redondeada en la piel a diferencia en cuestiones de la cavidad oral se manifiesta a menudo como múltiples elevaciones difusas de las partes blandas.
