1. His Childhood - Running in The Olympics

Louie was born a troublemaker. His mom even said, "If she didn't have her squirming boy clutched in her hands, she usually had no idea where he was." It turns out, Louie was off making trouble, between jumping in oil rigs, and even stealing a bakery's cakes.
Eventually, his brother Pete talked him into doing races, and Louie developed a passion for running that was used for more than just stealing things. One of his biggest accomplishments was going to the Olympics. Although he didn't win, he beat other professionals that he never dreamed of coming close to. He set many records, and then set off to war afterwards.

Louie and his crew, with his new best friend Phil took a B-24 (specific model plane) on multiple death defying missions, and just barely made it out alive each time. On one last mission to Honolulu though, the story takes a sharp turn, and Louie's crew prepares to hit water.
As well as countless attempts to signal anyone nearby while laying helplessly on a raft, Louie, Phil, and Mac are faced with shark attacks, dehydration, and starvation along the way. They even find unwanted attention, and get caught in a mess of bullets, barely manage to slip away without being shot. As Mac takes his last breath, Louie and Phil find safety on a ship after surviving on the raft for a record of 47 days!

3. POW Camps - The Bird

Phil and Louie made it off the raft, but truly the question is whether they'll make it off Makin Island. After being injected with foreign substances and treated like dirt, they found hope again when they realized they would be transferred to a POW camp. They would be served food and treated much better there, but after arriving at the camp they notice almost immediately that wasn't the case. They were forced to do hard labor, and the pay was a barely a handful of rice if they were lucky.
As if starvation and sickness weren't enough, Louie met his worst nightmare, the Bird. The Bird is a man named Watanabe, but no one dared getting caught talking about him. If they did, they'd be in for a beating. Louie on the other hand, was beaten by The Bird for doing nothing. He was injured badly in many ways, and could have easily died on multiple occasions.

4. The War is Won - Louie is still at war with himself

After much time had passed, Louie and other men still in the camps had fought to the end of it in their own way. They were finally released after Japan lost, and were sent back home.
For many of the men though, suffering continued. Many were traumatized, like Louie. He started drinking way to much, and became obsessed with the thought of killing The Bird. Even when The Bird was supposedly dead, Louie continued working on his plan to kill him. His relationship with his new wife Cynthia was growing distant, and even his brother couldn't talk him out of his bad habits.

5. Louie gets back his faith - Louie gets back himself

Louie's wife practically forced him to go to church. He was reluctant to listen at first, but when he finally tried to understand what he was being told, everything made sense to him again. Graham told about what God had said, "'If you suffer, I'll give you the grace to go forward.'" Louie realized that this was his miracle. He survived on a raft for 47 days, a POW camp, and even got the best of The Bird while he was at it. His whole journey replayed in his head, and he understood that every step was another miracle handed to him on this long walk home.

Just like that and Louie was already dumping out every drop of alcohol he had left when he returned home. He raised his daughter with Cynthia, and even carried the Olympic torch and started skateboarding in his seventies.

His life may not have been so easy. He faced multiple challenges, and grew so much as a person. He persevered one time after another. Louie is a round character because he has many sides. He can be a troublemaker, he can be a leader, and he can be defeated sometimes too. He is absolutely a dynamic character because his whole life was about change and adapting to his surroundings after he endured difficult time after time.
