Good Tuesday to all
I am excited about leading this ATL workshop. My name is Peggy (please disregard Margaret, long story !) and I have been an IBEN collaborator for more than ten years. I just recently retired from the "in school" education world and now work with IB on a contractual basis (basically full time) as a consultant, lead educator, workshop leader. I also work in programme development. My IB journey has enabled me to wear different hats from MYP teacher, coordinator and HOS, I've seen it all. I live in Ottawa, the beautiful Canadian capital where we are confined, much like the rest of the world. These are interesting times! Here is a picture of one of my favorite spots.

Hello everyone

My name is Carl Nel.

Teaching context

I teach at Redhill School in Johannesburg, South Africa. I used to teach English and then I switched to History. I teach Grades 8-11, but I do enjoy teaching Grades 8-9 specifically. If we have any teachers in training for Grades 7-9, they are often assigned to me. My postgraduate studies were in English and History.

Why I am taking this course

I look forward to the course because at our school we are exploring new forms of assessment in our professional development sessions. I think this assessment course will give me a very good sense of how the IB sees assessment.

Assessment preferences

I like to be assessed through written essays / assignments and multi-modal products. I enjoy essays and assignments because I am an independent learner who enjoys a bit of guidance and interaction before setting off to find sources and think about my argument. I enjoy multi-modal products because I get to use interesting technologies and software.

Background

I was a 'third-culture' kid. My father was in the foreign service. I was born in Taiwan and raised in Mozambique, South Africa and Brazil. I taught in the Middle East for two years and used that time to travel in the area and elsewhere.

I was incredibly privileged to attend the Graded School of Sao Paulo from 1978-1984. The school has changed a lot since then, and I believe it is also an IB school now.

I really enjoy reading up on and exploring new technologies. I also enjoy meditation, retreats, instrumental music and dystopian science fiction. I am reading The Last Pagans of Rome and Appeasing Hitler.

My encounter with the IB?

I am excited because our school is finally going ahead with the creation of a separate Middle School. I teach History to my favourite grades (7-9). We are going to spend 2020 planning our new Middle School Curriculum.

I am very new to the IB. I did the MYP Level 1 course because I like understanding the thinking behind every course I take. I did the MYP Level 2 course (Individuals and Societies) because that is my subject group. I have not taught an IB course as yet. We offer the DP Programme, but my hope is that as more teachers at our school undergo IB training, we might actually become an IB school.

I look forward to meeting all of you.

Carl

Hello, Collaborators!

I have the joy of living and teaching in Jeju, South Korea. Currently at my second IB school which is the first to offer the continuum.

I teach MYP Design to grades 6, 8, and 10 (MYP 1/3/5) and have a passion for integrating content, skills, and strategies from other subjects. I love IDUs and the Project and happily pitch in on all sorts of little projects around school.

This is my 3rd year teaching IB (8th total) and I have taken 2 other online courses before (Design Cat2. IDU Cat3).

I'm looking forward to deepening my knowledge about the framework and hope to gain some practices which I can share with my students and school.

Like many schools we have been online since February. But, this week we allowed 11th and 12th grades back on campus and will bring in most of the junior school next week and the remaining students in the week following.

Greetings and Aloha,

I teach at Le Jardin Academy in Kailua, Oahu (Hawaii). It is a private IB school all the way from preschool - 12th. Beautiful school...delightful students, wonderful faculty and staff. A great learning community.

I am an MYP1-4 Drama teacher, currently at my 5th year at this position. I also teach intro. to film, play writing, and assist in Spanish I classes. For these five years I strove to integrate the ATL skills with our varied curriculum. We have been online for five weeks, and have certainly had our share of challenges in combining these ATL skills with a distance learning model. My goal is to become a more compassionate teacher; to be able to connect with the students on a deeper level and help them on their journey through comprehending how IB can help them make sense of this vast universe.

Hi Everyone,

I teach year 1 and 2 at a public school in downtown Vancouver, BC. It's a K-7 school with only grades 6-7 part of the IB community; k-5 is not PYP which seems strange but somehow it's working. We are required to teach all subjects within our classes and find it challenging so I'm excited to see what this course has to offer.

I'm looking forward to learning more about ATL's, in particular how to explicitly incorporate them into my practice.

Here's a picture of my dog and geese at a park near our place.
