At the establishment, St. Christopher's School (RVA), the boys are well educated on how to treat each other. Most are generally respectful to their teachers, adhere to the strict honor code and rules of conduct, and participate in things like "society day." However, their treatment of women is well below par. I often hear the excuse, "They are teenage boys, they do not know any better," but their general disrespect is unacceptable. When they step out into the world, once they leave the St. Chris campus, they are rowdy and are hardly able to communicate respectfully with girls. They also highly objectify them, and would rather make judgements based on superficial means before getting to know someone. Boys/Men are expected to be strong providers and to "manly." They aren't supposed to have strong emotions, or to be allowed to share them because that's too "girly." These expectations force many boys to not only have a certain view of how they should be, but also to be more reserved when it comes to their emotions. To improve this, I feel that there should be some sort of education that helps them express their emotions. If this is implemented, then many boys could actually express how they feel instead of harboring their insecurities.
