In the book, it talks about how they are doing random science things in the tunnel, and reading books to learn more things than the Scholars knew. How is it that with a tunnel and left over items they are understanding more things than the Scholars, who have their own building. If the Scholars are doing their job properly, then they should not be able to be passed up by some random experiments. So the only question is, are the Scholars not thinking as openly, or are they being restrained to what they can do by the leaders. If they are not restrained, then their is no reason for them not to be constantly making new things.

Also, I wonder how they decide who is in the council, do they have elections or is it like a thing similar to a royal family, where sons/daughters of current members get to join? I also am wondering about the Palace of Corrective Detention, is it like a normal prison or is it more like a psychological prison, where they break people down and make them think a certain way?
