Imagism is a type of poetry that compeles emotion, by giving the reader a sense of place or feeling. This is done by provoking one's senses such as, sight, smell, hearing, or touch ("A Brief"). Imagist poetry uses the least amount of words in order to form a visual representation of their ideas or thoughts ("A Brief"). The words all add needed visuals to the idea or visual. Imagism poetry also falls into free verse poetry, with the lack of a strict structure ("A Brief"). Most imagist poems don't have a rhyming pattern. ("A Brief"). In this portfolio I have created three pieces that reflect the main principles of imagism, including a photo of my dog, a video of the sun, and finally a painting of a lightbulb. All items bring a certain feeling and emotion, without the use of words. The overall meaning of these pieces is that happiness and joy is in everything, and that one should never giving up hope. The positives will always out weigh the negatives. Additionally, I have an imagist poem by Amy Lowell, called "Meditation", with my interpretation of the meaning.

This photo is imagist because there is no words to accompany it, but certain emotions and ideas are still formed. The feeling of joy and happiness are asserted from this picture. My dog 's expression is really happy and playful, which becomes reflected in the viewer. I choose not to edit it much, because I wanted to keep it pretty raw since that is what the feeling of joy is like. A positive feeling doesn't need to be filtered or changed since it's ideal without it. Overall, when one sees this photo the feeling of joy becomes present like when someone looks at most photos of an animal. The creation of this feeling with out any explicit words or phrases makes this imagist.

This video is imagist due to the lack of text or words. In the video my hand is covering the sun only to reveal the light at the end. This asserts the idea of hope, or the idea of a light at the end of the tunnel. I waited to take this video until the sunniest day for the best results, in order to show the biggest contrast possible. My hand covering the sun is meant to represent the barrier or obstacle that is standing in the way of one's goal or hope. But as it moves away, the result or hope is revealed, being the sun. There is always hope no matter what is happening, which this video represents. Due to the lack of words, but a strong feeling this video is imagist.

This watercolor painting is imagist since there are no words to explain it. However, without words ideas and emotions are still formed . An idea of darkness verses light is displayed with a growing hope. This gives the feeling of hope and overcoming. The lightbulb is the hope and new ideas that can defeat negativity and darkness. The darkness/blackness is starting to crowd in the corners so I could further show the change in power. The majority of the light bulb is yellow, since yellow is most commonly associated with happiness and positivity. The vibrance of the oranges and the yellows are meant to create a larger contrast from the blues and grays, in order to show the greater divide that forms between positivity and negativity. This all makes this imagist, because of the combination of no words and asserted emotions.

I choose this poem because I liked the words the author choose, and the image it painted of the night sky filled with the different forms of lights. This poem is imagist because of the feeling and picture it paints. It also doesn't have a specific structure or rhyming pattern, making it a free verse poem. In the poem, Lowell is comparing the stars to the fireflies in the sky. This comparison I think is meant to represent that even if things or people move at different speeds they still have value, and that everyone is just simply different. You can't expect fireflies and stars to be the same, yet they both light up the sky. The differences are what makes everything special and unique, and one may be faster than the other, but it doesn't necessary mean its better. All of these images and feelings coming together are what make this poem imagist.
