One day Mr. Preston showed me to a stack of dusty textbooks, ones that hadn't been used in years. He sent me out to find who they belonged to, but doubted that I would find anything as they had been sitting in the corner for years. After asking every department and the library, Mr. Boehm was able to tell me that he had been the ones to leave the books there, as the nearby closet in the room had originally been Mr. Bourke's office. Mr. Bourke now teaches at Sheyenne, so I went off to send them over to him through the inter-school mail.

This was my biggest project during service learning. After the students had finished their dissections, I was tasked with cleaning all of the trays off. It took several days and lots of rigor, but with the help of another service learner, we got it done.

After I was finished, Mr. Preston showed me a new storage cabinet that was partially assembled. It was made to fit the trays, but just barely! I had to use critical thinking to find the best way to put them in and get them to fit.

One day Mr. Preston had to step out to his office to do some things. While he was gone he put me in charge of the class, telling me to advance the PowerPoint as they needed. It wasn't too big of a responsibility as the class was well-behaved, and all I had to do was push a button every few minutes.

One day as I went to class, I walked in to see Mr. Preston's chair on the floor in pieces. He tasked me with not only fixing it, but without the proper parts! After walking around the school with half a chair, I eventually found myself in the wood shop, where the teacher there collaborated with me to find the proper bolts to put the chair back together again.

This should have been one of my easiest tasks, but it ended up being quite a bit of a headache. Mr. Preston wasn't sure where they were supposed to go, and no teacher was exactly sure where they belonged. It took a lot of communication around the department to find where their home was. (It ended up being a storage closest in a rarely used lab, go figure)

Mr. Preston put a lot of faith in me when he asked me to create a review guide for an upcoming test. It would've been simple, but I have never taken anatomy before, so I went into it blind. I had to confer with notes, textbooks, and the students to find a solution to my problem. Eventually I managed to put together the review guide, it took a lot of logical creativity to get it done! I ended up doing this quite a few times, it was a big responsibility, but I was proud that I got it done and done well.

Grading quizzes quickly became the bulk of my work. There wasn't anything particularly difficult or challenging about them, but they took a long time and a lot of concentration to do. I may not have learned too much poring over quizzes, but I gained a newfound respect for teachers and their dedication to helping students learn!

This picture betrays the full responsibility of this task. Not pictured are the dozens of dissected cat bodies I also had to dispose of! I broke down the boxes, and eventually had to communicate with the administration and the janitorial staff to borrow a trash cart and wheel it all down to the dumpster. To top it all off it was raining that day. Definitely my least favorite job
