I now know that inaugurations are very meaningful to the U.S. and they can actually be entertaining. We were able to watch artists perform and Angela Gorman perform her wonderful poem. Angela's poem was very impactful to U.S. citizens who were watching the inauguration. Her poem gave us comfort and some relief in an issue that can be stressful for many people.

I learned that society is convinced that black and latino people are the main suspects for drug incarceration when in reality the rates say something else. I was also able to learn more about crime reforms and how they affect these incarceration rates. I learned that depending on amount of crime reforms in certain areas the incarceration rates in those areas will reflect that amount.

I liked how it talked about the border patrol officers, coyotes, and the walkers. I enjoyed the honesty the author put into the book, I was able to actually learn more about a situation that I've never been in.

Although it makes me sad to see all the failed attempts and tratedies, I'm glad to learn more about a serious issue. Reading all the articles about children and their parents who suffer to travel to the U.S. gave me more insight and I felt glad to be able to write a letter to a migrant children.

I was able to learn more about how these writers expressed emotion in their poems and how they would include their culture in their poetry. I enjoyed reading all the different styles of their poems  although I am not the best at interpreting words & phrases in poetry.

I also learned that poems may seem like a bunch of words were thrown together but in reality there was a lot of thought & meaning in those words. Poetry can be a great way to express emotions and feelings and it is also a great way to communicate with others.

I liked how I was able to learn about different cultures like my own and be able to read and write about some of my own cultural experiences in another language besides english. I appreciate how this class not only talks about Latino/Chicano culture but also about the Black community and how we suffer through similar racial struggles. 

I think that next year this class should include more projects that relate to Latino/Chicano culture. For example, I really enjoyed doing the altar project for Day of the Dead and I think other projects similar to that would be fun and educational.
