At the end of The book Flowers in the Gutter, I was left with a true sense of hope. It ended out with the characters all finding their strengths, and even them all finding their shared struggles. I like how the author tied together a theme of finding hope even in bad times. The ending though, was tragic and sad as they faced consequences even if its doing whats right. At the end of the book, the characters all showed true bravery and standing up for themselves. Overall I thought the end of the book was tragic and also sad overall.

In the last few chapters of No Excuses the end of the book was Kyle telling the audience that his wrestling career was officially over. I liked how Kyle connected his record from senior to his record during his first year of wrestling as a career which was the exact same with 35 wins and 16 losses. The most prominent theme throughout the book was having no excuses no matter what. Kyle was born with very short limbs and wanted to do things like normal kids. He played many sports until he found one he really loved at age 11. Despite all the challenges he faced he didn't allow any excuses to stand in front of him and proved to people that he could do things like everyone else but slightly modified. I would definitely recommend this book to someone because there is a lot to learn for it and that it's about a real person's life .

The book The Border Murders by Sarah Miller gives the reader insight on what happened during the trial of Lizzie Borden, it leaves you wondering who really killed Lizzie's parents. Miller does a good job stating the facts of the case as unbiased as possible leaving it up to us to decide what we think happened. I like that this book teaches you to not take things for granted. During the book we learned how Lizzie was selfish at times, she wanted more than what she could have, like a bigger house and more money. I think that this really helped establish the theme of appreciating what you have and showed us to be more grateful. Overall I would recommend this book to others who are curious about mysteries and crimes.

I really liked "flowers in the gutter" by k.r Gaddy, especially the ending. it was super powerful and really honored the edelweiss pirates, who were so brave resisting the Nazis during WWll. the ending showed their impact and legacy which was really touching. one thing I didn't like was that the ending felt a bit rushed. after following the characters through their struggles, I wanted more closure on their personal stories. it definitely left me curious about what happened to them after the war. there was definitely some surprises, especially with how some characters fates turned out. it reminded me of how harsh realities they faced and how unpredictable their lives really were during that time. the main theme throughout the book, especially in the ending, is the power of resistance and standing up against oppression. The Edelweiss pirates courage is really showing us that just a small act of bravery can make a big difference on the fight for justice.

The ending of The Borden Murders by Sarah Miller leaves the end of the book sort of a mystery. Lizzie Borden was found not guilty of killing her father and stepmother, but the book does not give a clear answer on what actually happened. Some people might find this frustrating, while other people might enjoy the mystery. Miller presents the facts of the case without saying for sure if Lizzie was guilty or innocent, letting you decide for yourself. The book makes you think about the justice system and how the media can influence people's opinions. It is written in an interesting way, almost like a true crime story, even though it is about an event that really happened. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes mysteries or true crime stories. It's also great for people who enjoy history but want a book that is exciting to read. Since the case is still unsolved, it makes for a interesting and thought-provoked.

I like the book “No excuses” by Kyle Maynard. His book really portrays his life and his struggles. Despite the fact he had a disability that caused him to learn things slower and not be able to do the same things as everyone else, he still learned how to wrestle, how to play sports with kids in his neighborhood growing up, eat, drink, etc. He had an amazing childhood thanks to his parents and grandparents. His grandmother and him were constantly spending time together. When he wasn’t with his parents or grandparents he was with his friends playing street hockey. He then started to get into wrestling. In this book, Kyle really teaches that you should never make an excuse no matter the circumstance. He has so much determination and perseverance. He wants everyone to live life to the fullest just like he did. In the end, he reflects on his journey all through his life. I really think this book is good and I love the lessons taught throughout it.

After I finished Flowers in the Gutter by K.R. Gaddy, I felt so much more informed and educated on what it was really like living in that time. Throughout the entire book I was just in awe that these were true stories of real people, and It was amazing to read about how strong these people were. I felt very inspired by their bravery at such a young age, and It reminded me to always stand for what I believe in, and fight back against what's wrong. The ending, in my opinion, really tied together the whole book, and gave great closure to their individual stories. They survived a horribly tragic time period, and to have it documented, remembered, and told through this book to thousands of people is incredible. It's such an important story to share, and spread awareness about, and I think K.R. Gaddy did a fantastic job telling their stories.

At the end of Flowers in the Gutter By K.R. Gaddy. I understood the book a lot more and actually understood what might have been going on during that time period. Towards the beginning of the book I was really confused on what was going on in the story and I tried so hard to understand it, but as the further on I read I understood it a lot more. During the middle I finally understood it and it makes me actually excited to read it and find out what was gonna happen next! Than when I finally reach the end I was in shock about how much detail the author put into this book and how he did a great job of explaining and making it feel like I was actually there living through it all. I like how K.R. Gaddy made the ending feel so real and how he described the consequences that the Nazis had to face and what was really gonna happen Overall I think this was a great book and I think that K.R. Gaddy did a really nice job of explaining the book! I enjoyed reading this!!

After reading the book "The Borden Murders" by Sarah Miller, I thought that Sarah Miller did a great job on explaining the situation that happened in Fall River, Massachusetts. Miller did a great job of making the book informational, and didn't seem to be biased on if she thought Lizzie was responsible for murder of her two parents or not responsible. I felt more educated about the case the more I read the pages. I would also recommend this book to people who enjoy reading about events that happened in history since this book was giving information about the Borden Murders. I would also recommend this book to people who like figuring out mysteries because the whole book was based on an unsolved case of who killed the parents of Lizzie Borden. The ending of the book showed that this whole case is still unsolved, and it is now known as one of the most famous unsolved murder cases.

I liked the ending of No Excuses by Kyle Maynard because it really hit home with the greatest theme or central idea while he was talking about the ending of his wrestling career. This theme I took to heart was the power of perspective. He also used multiple examples in his life throughout the book where he showed how his perspective drove him to get better and fight through hard moments. What I did not like overall about the book was that the ideas of perspective might also have been unrealistic as Kyle shows all challenges can be taken on with a great perspective and limited excuses. Sometimes challenges can be out of the control in different situations which could give the reader false perspective about their own challenges. At the end of the day the ending really did compel me to get up and stop making excuses. It drove me to look at my disadvantages and find the advantage.

I really liked the ending of the book no excuses by Kyle maynard because this book came with a very good theme and about how his determination got him through his career. The theme that I chose to use was even when things are hard and you have a ton of excuses you still try to do it. There was also a lot of examples that he used in his life that he expressed in this book. Some of the lessons that I took out of this book were to always persevere when things get tough in your life or things aren't always great and to never give up no matter what. Another thing I took out of this book was some situations are not always good but at some point you are going to have to overcome that and not let anything stop you. I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for a motivational book because I really enjoyed reading this book. This book really made me think to stop making excuses because I am lucky that I don't have the disadvantages that some people have and they never give up.

The nonfiction book “No excuses” written by kyle maynard is a incredibly impactful story based off the life of wrestler kyle maynard. Kyle Maynard was born in Georgia on March 24, 1986 with a rare disease known as congenital amputation meaning he would be born without arms and legs. When his parents (scott and anita maynard) found this out they were told that kyle may not live past childhood and going through with the child birth could be dangerous, since abortion was not on the table for the parents they decide to go through with the birth of kyle. Kyle's birth was successful and at an early age Kyle took an interest in sports such as hockey, basketball, football and wrestling. In highschool Kyle decided to join the wrestling team and in his senior year he won 36 of his matches. Around this time Kyle found an interest in weightlifting; he had a strict schedule that included working out chest, back, shoulders, abdominal and cardiovascularity training. In 2004 Kyle was awarded GNC’s Worlds Strongest teen by benching 240 lbs for 23 Repetitions. Later in life Kyle went on to open a crossfit gym and release a book talking about his inspirational life. After reading the intriguing story of kyle i realized that you can accomplish your dreams no matter what situation you are in as long as you are determined and have lots of perseverance. Kyle demonstrates this in the book because even though he was born without arms and legs he didn't let that get in the way of him accomplishing his dreams of becoming a wrestler. This book made me feel inspired and motivated to follow my dreams like Kyle and I think that more people should have a mindset like kyles. I would recommend this book to everyone but especially people who are interested in sports, weightlifting and motivational stories.- bentley

I read the book "All Thirteen" by Christina Soontornvat, and I found it to be a very powerful, emotional book. The way the author keeps us captured in the book by leaving us on cliff hangers and writing in really descriptive ways made this book ten times more interesting. I feel like while reading this book I could understand the connection the young soccer players had to their coach. I also loved how much emotion the author was describing throughout the book. By the end of this book I was filled with relief that they finally got the boys out and they were going to be okay after all the obstacles everyone had to go through they completed the mission. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone interested in true stories of survival and teamwork, as this book highlights the bravery of not only the boys but the many rescuers that came from all over the world to risk there lives to try to save these boys.

The ending of "The Hot Zone" by Richard Preston is both sad and unsettling. after detailing the terrifying outbreak of Ebola virus, the book ends with a reflection on how these deadly viruses continue to exist in nature, having a constant threat. The realization that the virus could reappear at any time was chilling. I liked how Preston maintained a suspenseful and engaging book making real events have you sitting at the edge of your seat. One of my biggest surprises was how quickly the Reston strain of Ebola disappeared without causing a human outbreak, despite it highly infectious nature in monkeys. the most prominent theme in the book is unpredictability, as it highlights how little control humans have over emerging diseases, the amount of times in the book that they thought they had finally figured out what was going on and then something else happens to change what they thought they knew resonates with the theme. this theme connects strongly with today, to be careful with your health.

I read the book "The Borden Murders" by Sarah Miller, The author does a great job at combining the historical context and engaging the narrative, it makes it perfect for people who enjoy true crime and people who are just becoming interested in true crime or want to learn about it. Miller does a great job at showing the mood through setting as well, it shows an eerie and gloomy mood throughout the whole story. By the end of the book it shows the aftermath of the Borden murders and that Lizzie Borden pled not guilty and left many questions unanswered. overall this book is amazing and at sometimes had me at the edge of my seat, I recommend this book if you enjoy true crime cases/unsolved mysteries or you're trying to see a good true crime case to start with if you want to start liking them.

I read the book ¨No Excuses¨ by Kyle Maynard and this book can be very inspiring to anybody because it shows how kyle's life was with his very hard challenges with having no arms or legs and this book also shows how kyle never gave up on his wrestling dreams and they came true by him winning 35 games and only 16 losses and he was on the high school wrestling team. Also at the end of the book he is wrestling against some other team and it is a very close game and the author uses very good ways of describing and panting the picture on what is happening in the book also when kyle lost the last game he still never gave up and said ¨my season and my high school career were over.¨ on page 220 but also during this page kyle keeps his head up and still does not give up and works even harder. also during this part the author says ¨and then i heard the applause not just from my high school but from the panthers as well.¨I can picture this part because the way the author describes this part in the book. And this shows how kyle maynard is very inspirational and teaches people to never give up.

The novel book I read for this nonfiction unit was called, "All Thirteen" by Christina Soontornvat. This book felt so intense reading about how each boy was brought out of the cave. I couldn't believe how risky it was, especially the part where they had to sedate the boys so they wouldn't panic underwater. It most likely feels scary for the boys, but it was the only way to save the boys. I also liked how the book showed what happened after they were rescued. The part about that one driver who lost his life was also really sad, but it showed everyone how much, people were willing to risk themselves to help others. By the end, I felt amazed by the teamwork and determination of everyone involved. It made me realize how much humans can accomplish when they work together. I recommend this book because it's not just a survival story, it's about problem solving, teamwork, and courage. Even if you don't read nonfiction books, the way this book was written makes it feel just like watching a thriller. - Marcelino Mikhael

I read the book "The Hot Zone" by Richard Preston. The ending of Hot zone is pretty nerve racking in my opinion at the end of the book the author tells us how the virus could spread again and it is just sitting in the cave. when I first got the book I thought it was going to be terrible and I was going to be bored the whole time but I found that the book was more interesting then I thought and that at some times it could have you at the edge of your seat. The book wasn't just about ebola it was about the story and them trying to figure out what it was before it got to be a big issue. It was a interesting book but I wouldn't necessarily recommend this book to any of my friends unless they specifically asked for a nonfiction recommendation. I thought that it was a good book but I just feel like none of my friends would really be interested in it and it is definitely not something I would just read for fun but that is just my opinion.

I read "The Borden Murders" by Sarah Miller, this book really does a great job at giving you an idea on what really happened the day of the murders and the aftermath. The author does a great job at explaining Lizzie's personality and even shows picture evidence of the people living in the house at the time, showing the skulls of Andrew and Abby Borden as well. I also liked how they mentioned and played out how the trial may have gone and how Lizzie turned out to be innocent even when there were signs it was really her.

I read the nonfiction story "No excuses" by Kyle Maynard, I like the book because it is a Inspiring story about Kyle living with no hands and legs. His story is inspiring because he tells his story of how hard he worked. I liked the end of the book because even though i do not like wrestling his story taught me about wrestling and the hardships of wrestling and what it takes to be a good wrestler. The very last page of the book Kyle talks about his final wrestling match. He lost but he said "Even in defeat i knew i had won." Despite the fact he had a disability that caused him to learn simple daily life tasks like driving.

I read the non-fiction novel, "The Hot Zone", by Richard Preston. The ending had both a grim and dreadful theme to it, ending off the book with a reflection of the virus, and the harsh reality that diseases and viruses are inevitable. The author did a great job at giving information on what Ebola was, and had made it interesting and engaging. He had detailed where it started, and how lethal Ebola could be. Even though COVID was not as brutal as Ebola, I could still relate the book to my own personal experiences during the pandemic, and things I have heard from other people. The most prominent theme I found was unpredictability, because you never knew what would happen next.
