My first class on bees:

Through the class, we had look at different pollinators and al the different types of bees there are.

We also look at the growth of a baby bee and what it looks like for them to develop.

We also learn that bees see a different range of colours to us.

In this class I had learned about the different types of bees and how they communicated. I learned the proper name for a honey bee (Apis Mellifera) and how there are many different species of bees. They do certain dances to communicate where certain flowers are.

Ty bees week 3

This week we learned about the decreasing numbers of the bee population and what effects that could have on us in terms of growth of food and pollination of flowers and other plants.

We were also told about a certain mite that goes and drains the energy from the bees and kills them, and how these mites can destroy a whole hive.

We were give knowledge on what we could do to help protect bees and how we can help bring the population back up.

Ty bees Week 4

Today we learned about how we can help the bees and increase their populations.

Parks and gardens can play an important role in bee conservation. It is important to plant flowers native to our country..
Bees can’t see the colour red so it is best to plant flower that are yellow or blue.
If you can, try leaving part of your lawn uncut so that plants and flowers can grow.
Some good early flowering plants for bees are Crocuses, bluebells, Pussy willow, mahonia and hebe (the last two are non native options).

Over the last few weeks in this module, I have learned many things that I had not known before about bees. I never knew how many different types of bees there are. I’m not sure that I want to pursue a career working with the likes of bees in my future, but it was this interesting to listen and learn all about bees. This module has helped me greatly the importance of protecting bees and the best ways to do that. While some imagery was quite unsettling to me, it also helped me learn more about how the bees go about an everyday life.
