Nowadays, we are very concerned about our environment and pollution. We have to learn how to take care of it and love it. The best way to do so is teaching new generations to be aware of the dangers and consequences if we do not get involved.
However, to love our environment and the animal world , we must know it. Thus, a good activity would be to build a concept map in an Interactive Word Wall about animals in danger.

I would start a warm up by asking them what animals in danger they know and why they are in danger. Then, I would show them the photo of a Blue Whale, ask them if they know what animal it is and what they know about it. After having shared their background knowledge, I would divide the class in groups.
Each group would have the photo of a Blue Whale and four cards with four categories: Fun facts, Characteristics, Dangers And Solutions.
They should have to put the cards with information with their proper category.

As Fun facts we would have:
Cetacean = big fish 🐋

The original text is an article titled “The Blue Whale. The Giant of the Ocean” by Odile Amblard, adaptation LA, on pages 14-15 taken from the magazine “I love English” number 300 February 2018, Bayard.

Once we checked the information on the text, I would encourage them to choose an animal in danger, look for information about it and build a wall with the same categories, so that every group would share them.
Each group would have an Interactive Word Wall of a different animal in danger in order to learn and show their classmates what they whave learnt.
They would be getting information and sharing it in class.

PRACTICE: running dictation: in pairs, students have to fill a text with missing paragraphs; the missing info is posted on the classroom walls, so they have to read it, keep it in mind and tell back to his/her partners.
After 3-4 minutes, I’ll give them the whold text, projected on the whiteboard.

Afterwards, the SS will be rearranged in a new group, in this case of three; they will choose one of the women already presentes, and in 15 minutes time they will have to tell us why that woman WAS famous (using past tense).

PRODUCE: the SS will have to choose a relevant woman in the world, learn about her and tell us her most significant and personal details in an oral presentation; this task will be done partially in class, but they will have to work out of the class.
