This song questions the reason why mankind hates on each other when they are of the same breed. It covers the topic of channeling hatred to others through violent acts and physical hostility. The lyrics itself states, "It's obvious you hate me, Though I've done nothing wrong. I never even met you, So what could I have done?" This phrase exposes the irony of human nature, and how we go against each other for no real purpose. This song is still highly relevant within modern society due to the negativity still prevalent today. The human race fights for survival and greed, something that our nature makes us desire. Several wars have been fought, and millions of lives have been jeopardized. There are still people who hate on certain ethnic or social groups, simply because they don't agree with their beliefs. This creates conflicts and unnecessary aggression between both parties.

WAR
War, in retrospect, is often used as a last resort when a conflict between two or more nations can not be resolved any other way. It is usually created through human greed and desire for more. Some examples include desire for expansionism, economic, or social reasons. Ultimately, war can be both good and bad because it can unite nations, but also cause millions of casualties.
POWER
The human nature is made to crave authority. Power has both a good and bad connotation. Power in the right hand can lead to justice and the best for the majority. However, if it is found with the wrong person, chaos and destruction can give way without question. Either way, power should always have a limit. Absolute power has the ability to destroy absolutely as those on top will just become more and more greedy.
EDUCATION
A lack of education can often cause disputes between society. However, having access to an education does not always mean one is educated. Education can either be beneficial or destructive. As new advancements and technology is created, we have the world right between our fingertips. However, without the right limitations, these advances can get out of hand and cause destruction within a society or individual.
SURVIVAL
In order to maintain survival, many either fight or surrender. The desperate need for survival causes people to compromise their morals and values to give in to the authoritative figure. This includes betraying others and lying to get out of a dangerous situation. However, others may risk their life to attack back. Many lose their lives fighting until the very end, refusing to surrender or give in to the enemy.
REBELLION
Rebellion usually occurs when an individual or group of people no longer want to abide to the rules that were given to them. Rebellion shows a sense of courage and pride for one's self. In some cases, in order to survive, one must rebel against the opposing side. One can view rebellion as good or bad, as it is a very ambiguous topic, but it is no argument that one must feel intense passion or anger that it leads them to rebel.

Joel's We Didn't Start the Fire is a literal time capsule that summarizes major topics throughout the last couple decades. The chorus, "We didn't start the fire, it was always burning since the world's been turning," signifies how the cause of destruction is accumulated over time, and can not be pinpointed on just one generation. Joel includes not only political, but also cultural and societal events to show how they all affect our lives in different ways. All these events have come together to shape the world as we know it today. By encapsulating these subjects, the singer provides historical context for future generations, and puts into perspective the effects our surroundings have on us as individuals and as a society.

This song revolves around the idea of the world falling apart as people discriminate and go against each other. Many people are dying, and no one seems to be doing anything about it. The lyrics state to spread love instead of hate, because love can overrule any differences between two groups of people. The aspects around this song is still applicable today because internal wars and disputes are still occurring. Unless we, as humankind, do anything to stop it, nothing's going to change. People only start to care about something once it starts affecting them, but tend to stay ignorant to the challenges others are facing. People nowadays lack love and sympathy, and all the the world needs right now is a sense of unity.

Animal Farm

WAR
In the book itself, the animals fight in a war called the Battle of Cowshed, which was really an allegory for the Russian Civil War going on at the time. The animals finally win independence over the humans and start their new society under the leader of the pigs. There was also a war between the struggle for absolute control between Snowball and Napoleon.
POWER
Throughout the novel, it was obvious to the audience that power over the farm has resided in corrupt hands: the pigs, specifically Napoleon. As the pigs rose to power due to their intelligence, they started to abuse their authoritative position and make the other animals submit to their needs. Napoleon spreads his ideologies by using ultimate force and creating fear among the farm. Squealer also acts as propaganda for Napoleon's rule. Soon, Napoleon's absolute power leads to corruption and broken promises.
EDUCATION
Due to the lack of the education within the rest of the animals such as Boxer or the herd of sheep, it wasn't difficult for the pigs to manipulate and corrupt them. Even before the pigs rose to power, they tried to educate the rest of the animals, but found it easier to just take over instead. This imbalance of intelligence among the farms divided the animals into intellectual hierarchies, something Old Major tried to abolish in the first place.

SURVIVAL
In order to survive Napoleon's cruel acts, the animals give in and please his orders without a fight. They know that if they question his authorities, they would be punished mercilessly. Their immediate surrender to Napoleon shows their fear of death and desperation to survive.
REBELLION
In the beginning of the book, the animals on the farm decide to rebel against their greedy, lazy farm owner, Mr. Jones. Sick and tired of working for the humans, the animals decide to turn their backs and overrule the farm for themselves. After realizing Napoleon's unjust orders, the hens start to rebel against his rules and refuse to give up their eggs. As a result, he starves them to death and starts to execute those who opposes with his ideas. This act alludes to Stalin's Great Purge where he purged those in his opposition or he simply just didn't like.

In this song, Michael Jackson addresses the human race and how no one seems to notice that many people are dying. He sends out the message of "heal the world, make it a better place for you and for me and the entire human race." Not only does he allude to the severity of death, but also how we as individuals are capable of initiating a change and overall making the world a better place. The music video encaptures clips of children and soldiers. It shows how many children across the world are struggling, and that several soldiers are risking their lives to defend for their country. There is also a short introduction before the song starts that states how we must maintain a good environment for our children and many future generations to come. Through this song, Jackson brings light to the negative events circulating around the world, and encourage people to change it before it's too late.

Another Kind of Girl - Khaldiya

This short video diary by a Muslim girl explores her confined lifestyle in concentration camps. In this footage, she narrates how her life has changed, and how she grew stronger due to the challenges she had to face. She describes herself as "another kind of girl" because she does not embody the traditional values of what being a "girl" is. Although the filming style is simplistic and not high-tech, the audience feels a more raw connection to Khaldiya and her family. Something I took note of was how her siblings now have to play with their hands for entertainment instead of with toys. One of her sisters would always pedal her feet as if she was riding a bike. Although these children didn't have much, they still kept a happy smile. This makes me realize the several things that we take for granted on a daily basis. Despite the lack of resources and harsh conditions of the concentration camp, Khaldiya still manages to stay strong for her family.

Man in the Mirror - Michael Jackson

Man in the Mirror by Michael Jackson addresses how many people tend to brush over and ignore others who are struggling. Although it is blatantly obvious that many people are in need of aid, those who can lend out a hand often pretend they aren't there. Jackson uses the lyrics, "I'm starting with the man in the mirror" to show how he is going to start with himself in order to initiate change. It is one thing to complain about how bad society is, but it's another thing to actually stand up and do something to fix it. By creating this song, Jackson encourages others to initiate self betterment and help those around them. He also makes sure to include pictures of starving kids and struggling families to evoke sympathy. No one is going to come to accept that people need help unless they physically see it face on. A major change doesn't have to be big, it can start with only one person doing their part.

A Girl, Whose Shadow Reflects the Moon - Walaa

As a child, Walaa has already experienced the effects of war first. At just the 7th grade, her two friends dropped dead in seconds due to a bomb. One of her friend said, "I really don't want to die," which distinctively displays the realization between life and death, and how many people take life for granted. This part really puts into perspective the dangers Walaa and her friends are facing at such a young age. Walaa and her family moved to Jordan from Syria for safety. During this process, she unfortunately gets separated from her family, creating a distinct barrier between them. Alone and vulnerable, Walaa was easily taken advantage of by a police man. Throughout her short lifetime, Walaa has witnessed several traumatic experiences that shaped her into who she is. Although hard to believe, many other young girls have had similar experiences to Walaa. By showing the effects of war through the eyes of a child, more people feel encouraged to prevent it from occurring in the first place.

Reflections (After)

WAR
War is the one declaration that will undoubtedly lead to absolute destruction. Either the destruction of the nation, human lives, or buildings, war tears humanity apart, and leaves society vulnerable and helpless. War is often united by nationalism or religion, explaining why many glorify it as a "honorable" event. However, the truth is, war has the ability to take many innocent lives, and is not something to be proud of.
POWER
Power can act as either one's vice or virtue depending on the way it is used. If channeled through the wrong hands, power can lead to corruption among many others. Those in power usually use it to help the greater good, however, others may abuse their position. When a person starts to misuse their power and begin exploiting others for self gain, rebellion could possibly occur.
EDUCATION
Having access to education helps people stay updated and aware of the situations around the world. However, being educated still leaves room for ignorance. Although one can be educated, they can lack critical thinking skills that questions authority. Without this skill, they are just like all the other sheep mindlessly following the wolf.
SURVIVAL
During rough times, survival is the one thing people will viciously fight for. When the need to survive is the only thing pushing someone's will to live, their human qualities often shift to animal instincts. In a cruel world where survival is a competition, many turn merciless and aggressive. This need for survival forces a person to use logic and practicality over personal emotions.
REBELLION
A restricted government over corrupt ideas will often lead to rebellion among the people. With no rights or freedom, civilians will resist against the officials regulating the laws. Rebellion can lead to scary and dangerous consequences, but if the reason is really worth it, the rebel is willing to risk their life to fight for their beliefs.
