Some PTSD victims see the world as a dangerous place. Loud noises can startle them and bring back memories of things like war. Sometimes they even view others as the enemy and freak out. Many have trouble sleeping because they do not trust their surroundings. However, each victim sees and deals with the world around them in different ways depending what they witnessed.

Symptoms of PTSD can be flashbacks, nightmares and often affect personal and work life. Similar to how Billy travels in time, he is having flashbacks of his time in the war and his time at dresden which brings up all sorts of other memories. Another symptom is having negative changes in beliefs and feelings and Billy has lost all hope for free will after the Tralfamadorians told him that it didn't exist.
